AFAIK Netflix should work perfectly in Firefox (with DRM enabled) or Chrome.

Which web browser are you using to access Netflix ?

PCNetSpec is totally correct.

Google Chrome is the one browser that supports Netflix without any additional requirement.

Firefox requires that you enable DRM.

It is "open source" Chromium  Browser that Netflix will not run on because of lack of "propriatory" stuff that Google Chrome and Firefox use for compatability purposes.

So this is not a "Linux" situation problem at all, It is a browser compatability issue.

Who ever at Netflix told you that,
Quote
.Netflix of course does not support Linux period according to their chat person.

That person needs to be retrained in Customer Information since Netflix does not claim this at all.

He should have asked what browser you were trying to use.

Oh it is a tattered web we find ourselves in.... I did actually save the Netflix Chat because l could not believe what he/she had said. I had my wifes and my own laptops with me at the time, one (my wifes) loaded with Peppermint and runs Netflix flawlessly and mine with Mint again..flawless.
I had issues with the Firefox so thought l may unload and reinstall a newer version but it was installed fresh from the Peppermint 10 ISO disc so it must be current ,but being new to firefox myself ,l could not discover which version was on my Brothers desktop. I did however enable the DRM but it still did not work...but now l think of it maybe l should have rebooted after changing the setting???HHMMMmmm.
I then tried Chrominium and that was totally crazy. The other option being Chrome was not immediately available as my Brother had no recollection as to his password to log into Google  so we had to request a password reset and that apparently is a 3 to 5 day wait so they can verify..there is a lesson there...another option was to open with Facebook but in order to access that he again needed his Google email access.
At present we are awaiting Google....before he can continue with the installation of his information allowing access and he will have to be content with Youtube for entertainment.
Anyhow friends ,thanks for you contributions and l am happy to say l am becoming more comfortable with Linux and learning a lot  on the journey. ...OH...LOOK l am now rated Karma 1  8)

As a side point, you do not need to "sign in" with a "Google Chrome" acct. to make Netflix work, I have no Google Chrome accts. at all, Not even Gmail,  I just ocassionally use their browser for Netflix or Amazon Prime Videos and it just works. NO requirement to be "logged in"  to Google Accts. for this to work.

Regards,

The Omen

EDIT, just as another side point, i have never heard of a 3 to 5 day waiting period for a password verification and reset from Google, since this is a computer automated function from Google servers.

Veriifcation is done autonomously by their computer server systems, no humans involved for reset of passwords etc., it is done almost immediately.

After all, they are not in the business of losing money or subscribers to their services.

see l learn something everyday!
I guess l was confused as there was some reason his email account was required and since he had forgotten the password he had to submit a request to have access to change it..you don't have any icons for going crazy ofr l would select one! :-[

You don't need Chrome.
Make sure DRM content is enabled and the browser is set to "Remember history". This is important, otherwise Netflix will just throw out errors.
I can assure you it works. I'm currently watching Netflix on Firefox in Peppermint 7 that its installed on a intel-haxm accelerated Qemu virtual machine inside NetBSD-8.1_STABLE.
Guess my set-up its slightly more complicated than yours and its working fine  ;)

Amazon Prime works now too, just activate DRM and yes keep Firefox either to remember history or custom history. I have mine set to custom, where it has remembered all my passwords through Firefox, not Google as I have deactivated Google and use Ducky Duck Go On with ya. I love the new login with whatever email you're using and being able to sync Firefox on whatever device you're using. Fantastico.  ;D
Not only is Peppermint an addictive OS to use.
But so is this Forum :)

In Firefox it's handy to make Netflix an ICE SSB so you can have those settings applied and keep your regular browser however you want it, because the Firefox SSBs have isolated profiles.
