I made a clean install of PM-X, and also update (icon, right corner down)

After this, i still have (with the intel UHD Graphics 605 and als with the UHD 620 Cards) this problems:

1st: in the first 1-3 lines a have a kind of "flicker"; means (dark Background - Original Screen) where 1-3 lines flicker in Light/white lines... (sometimes), doesn t matter, if there is a programm open/a window, ot not

2nd: When i scroll down (p.e. in a Forum) i have a kind of "delay", means - there are 2 "Halfs" which scroll with a (simple) delay in a "diagonal" cut (from left up to right down) - when i stop scroll, all is fine;
So; it disdurb when u wanna scroll down in a forum

At other Distributions (lubun... and (unofficial) LM LXDE ) after the update (and search at "drivers") this "problems" mostly disapear
Under Peppermint (six) und HD 60x-Cards i duno have this problem

Any ideas? Thx
(And excuse my english - i knew, itś worse)

You have screen tearing, yes we suffer with it in Linux unfortunately. I guess you're using Intel as your display? As it says in your system details.
Here is the fix

Open up a Terminal
Code: [Select]
Ctrl+Alt+T

Copy and paste
Code: [Select]
sudo mkdir -v /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d
Hit Enter

Pop in your password, do not worry nothing comes up that is normal. Hit Enter

Then copy and paste, this as one command, the whole lot at once. Hit Enter

Code: [Select]
echo -e 'Section "Device"\n Identifier "Intel Graphics"\n Driver "Intel"\n Option "AccelMethod" "sna"\n Option "TearFree" "true"\nEndSection' | sudo tee /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf

Finally reboot and all screen tearing should be gone.  ;D

Not only is Peppermint an addictive OS to use.
But so is this Forum :)

This particular "anti-screen tearing" works for me on Pep 9, Pep9 re-spin, and Pep 10 as well as all Linux Mint installations I have done.

Stop Screen Tearing: INTEL PROCESSORS ONLY!!!

Test sreen tearing as a before and after using this site:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=2&v=5xkNy9gfKOg

Open a terminal and run these commands in sequence:

NOTE: Some Ubuntu/Debian based systems do not have "mesa-utils" installed by default, If you run this command, It will either install it or tell you it's already installed. Just go to the next command after this:

Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install mesa-utils

Then

Code: [Select]
 sudo mkdir -v /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d

Then

Code: [Select]
echo -e 'Section "Device"\n Identifier "Intel Graphics"\n Driver "Intel"\n Option "AccelMethod" "sna"\n Option "TearFree" "true"\nEndSection' | sudo tee /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf
I have seen variations of these codes than the ones I have posted on this site, but these codes have worked on all INTEL PROCESSORS ONLY!!! systems I have used it on.

Now REBOOT to apply the changes.

To UNDO

Open a terminal and run:

Code: [Select]
sudo rm -v /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf
Now REBOOT.

Thx u both !!!!
-------------
Yes, machine is out of the box/no (hardware)modification ;
And the prob. - i can get exactly now, why, and how, but mostly with the UHD Versions;
at some distris, it's fixed with an update, sometimes not

but u both knew, what i mean; so i am not alone with this prob

And as long their is a solution: I am glad

I will do this; when i am on the machine with PM 10
and gave u a report
-------------------------------

@Omen:

i guess i should do

Code: [Select]
To UNDO
when it not works/ to delete the changes (when their was no effect)

but when it works - i shouldn't do that

That would be YES/CORRECT, use this first on youtube to check if you have screen tearing,
Quote
https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=2&v=5xkNy9gfKOg
( the lines will not be straight but kind of zig/zag).

Then use the codes i gave in my FIRST/PREVIOUS post.

then try again the youtube,
Quote
https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=2&v=5xkNy9gfKOg

If the lines are NOW all straight, it works ok, then it is ok.

ONLY  DO "THE  UNDO"  I wrote "IF IT DOES NOT WORK"

nothing will be in harm.

The Omen

Okay,
i am now on the machine with the UHD 605

After your lines (Omen) , this "smearing"/tearing seams to be off - on the first views at this forum; i duno have this effect anymore;
and also the youtube video is fine

I still have a kind a "flickering" in the first 1-3 maybe 5 Lines (Pixelrows) above :(

I still run other Linux-Distris on this machine (Lubunt* and Min* 19 LXDE, also Win8 ) - on this distributions i duno have this effect (1-5 Lines)

Thx 4 the moment

Lets try one other thing to try and stop the screen tearing and get rid of your 3 to 5 lines fluctuating at top of screen by me changing the code a little.

If this doesnt work, then the problem is most likely the kernel you are using.

if you are on line, LET ME KNOW NOW  and i will stay with you to give exact instructions in how to do this. I am able to do so tonight as Im able to stay overnight at my "mentors" home.

Your name is "Kaan"? Probably in Turkey/Türkiye

"Kaan is a masculine (Man's/Erkek/Adam) given name and surname of Turkic origin, meaning "Ruler", "King of Kings", "Khagan" "Khan". Originally Mongolian Empire. Ghengis Khan or Kaan - Correct/YES?

Hi Kaan, Sorry it took so long to get back to you, I have limited computer access at this time.

What needs to be done now is to UNDO the orignal command I gave you and then REBOOT:

UNDO COMMAND:

Code: [Select]
sudo rm -v /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf
NOW REBOOT.

I have made only one change in the the "echo" command code (2nd line of code below), hoping this will not only stop your screen tearing which the first code did, but i am also hoping to stop your first top of the screen, 3 to 5 lines from fluctuating.

Mesa-utils should is now and still should be installed so you can skip that code and use this one first:

Code: [Select]
sudo mkdir -v /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d

THEN: This is where i made only one tweak in the code that I hope just may stop the fluctuation problem in top of screen.
I changed the "accelmethod" from "sna" to "uxa".

Code: [Select]
echo -e 'Section "Device"\n Identifier "Intel Graphics"\n Driver "Intel"\n Option "AccelMethod" "uxa"\n Option "TearFree" "true"\nEndSection' | sudo tee /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf

REBOOT:

Now just see if this fixes both problems rather than just the screen tearing.
If it does not fix both, then we are going to need much more knowledgeable people then myself here or it might only need a kernel change, but report back in any event so we know if its solved, or more help is needed.

The Omen

Hi Kaan, Sorry it took so long to get back to you, I have limited computer access at this time.

...
Don't worry, all fine;
I have to thank, for ur sparetime u spend, to gave me/others help
And spec. thank, that u surplus explained the differences (gave me a learning effect)

So, i made, what u suggest, i will see while time, if there is a change

Thank u !!!!

Edit: Okay, feedback;
It seems, the flickering is away (the first 5 lines on top of the screen); but with the last modification the "smearing" is back; means the diagonal-delay ; (I see it, while i scroll down in this forum)...
and the test (u-Tube link) shows at second 15 the "error" again (wrong displaying/displaying with weired lines)
----

I do the steps, which u wrote in ur first post in this thread, incl. the reboot; cause this "delay" while reding in Forum/threads is too much disdurbing

Hi Kaan, If i understand you OK, you went to the first settings we did a few days ago because the second new code did not stop screen tearing but did stop flickering at top of screen and screen tearing is the worst of the 2 problems,?  Yes/Correct?.

That is good then.

If screen tearing is gone but still have the top of screen flickering, We now have to wait for people with more knowledge than myself to help you with the top of page flickering problem at top of page for the first 3 to 5 lines.

It is possible that the "echo" code i use is maybe able to use both "sna" and "uxa" together in the "AccelMethod", but I do not have enough knowledge to know how to do it or if it will even work together.

My theory in my mind is "sna" would be primary and "uxa" would be secondary to respond to both problems but I do not know for sure.

I think it could be either needing to change the kernel or is a graphics problem that I do not know about.

Please maybe ask PCNetSpec for help with this since he is the Primary Authority in building and maintaining Peppermint Operating Systems and knows much more than i have ever learned.

I am after all still just a jr. member of the forums, same as you, lol.

I still have much to learn.

Yes; u understand correct;
sry my bad engish

and yes ; screen tearing is with the first setting away, and it's away, with the switch back (first step), after the 2nd one

And it seems (!!!) , after this action, also this flickering of the first 1-5 lines, which was removed (seem so) with settings 2,
also gone now...

I will have an eye on it; meanwhile, i will follow the instructionas again, on a 2nd Computer/same Hardware; but with an 11" screen - Keep u informed

ONe last question:
Is this way/step also working under other linux-distris too (Lubunt* (18.04), and Min* (Unofficial LXDE 19.2)???
-------------------------------

Thank u very much for your help, your time and !!!! it was helpfull for me anyway !!!
Also thx to clatterforslim ,who helped too

Be VERY aware that this is for INTEL CPUs ONLY, It should work on Lubuntu, If that system is also INTEL CPU, I know it works under any Ubuntu/Debian system,  (but I have never done so on LXDE as I believe that it is pure DEBIAN based), and have never used LXDE.

LXDE is a desktop environment (Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment) not a distro. As a DE It can be run on any distro .. in fact you're kinda using (parts of) LXDE in Peppermint (the LXDE session manager lxsession, and lxappearance).

Maybe you're thinking of LXLE Linux (which is a distro, that also used the LXDE desktop) ?
