well lwas going to send the file to you but when l returned to the computer it asked for a password...l did not realize a password was necessary for a live session so l thought maybe it was my computers password it was asking for...that did not work..so l closed down the Peppermint program (on CD) and went to log back into the computer and l now get a message .. " No bootable device-- insert boot disc and press any key " it was necessary to access the BIOS on Windows 8.1 thru the program which l no longer have access to....l thought pressing the FN 2 may put me into the bios but it did not...at a loss..any suggestions?

Very interesting..l have re mounted the Live Peppermint 10 and the sound is now working fine.

Very Very  interesting.. watching a video on Youtube things to do after adding Peppermint and around 10 minutes in the sound started breaking up..thinking it may have been the particular video l switched to another and the sound was gone!   Maybe this is a sound card issue? specific to my computer?
any ideas or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Ahh, I remember Firefox doing this a few versions back where it didn't in Chrome/Chromium .. seems fixed in the latest Firefox.

I assumed it was something Google changed on YT and it took Mozilla a while to figure out.

Maybe try installing the latest Firefox (or Chrome/Chromium) .. though I realise that's not a permanent solution on a LiveUSB, it might give you a better idea how an installed and updated system would behave.

You should also consider a live session will use more RAM than an installed version, which may also be playing a part.

Hi windrose,

I doubt that this will solve your issue, but it might not hurt to try using the 64-bit version of Peppermint 10. I also see that the machine has 8 GB of RAM so probably the comment by PCNetSpec concerning RAM usage is not critical.

Good of you to point that out..l had originally burned the disc for a 32 bit desktop l was playing with...will burn a 64 bit for this one but as you said that is probably not the issue.

I use my Lenovo at work on night shift, running 64bit Peppermint 10. It's the Yoga 500, just upgraded it to 8GB of ram and put a 500GB SSD inside it, it flies along and what I love about it is I use a Lenovo USB mouse on it and switch off the annoying mousepad, with
Code: [Select]
Fn+F6 together

I find vibration causes when typing especially here on this forum or any forum, words to get misspelled and jumbled up. Switching off the mousepad does the trick. Just thought I'd share that with you. For every other Laptop that has not got this function, there is a app you can download for Linux.

Ignore the 16.04 as I have it working on my Elitebook running Peppermint 10.

I know this does not help with your sound problem, but as I use the same Laptop just thought I'd mention.  ;D
Not only is Peppermint an addictive OS to use.
But so is this Forum :)

About your sound problem, open up a terminal on your live USB stick and copy and paste this.

Code: [Select]
sudo apt install ubuntu-restricted-extras

This is for listening and making MP3 and MP4 files, but quite concerned that you are not getting any sound out of speakers and don't know if this will help or not? Have you gone into configuration settings in pulse audio?

Open menu go to
Code: [Select]
Multimedia
Code: [Select]
Left Click PulseAudio Volume Control

When it first opens it looks like this.

Where I have the mouse in the picture left click it till you get to Configuration.

Can you alter the settings below like mine to
Code: [Select]
Analog Stereo?
  ;D
