Debian / Ubuntu base / built Linux Distros work well on most all computers I've installed it on and yes there are going to be a few quirks here and there depending on the hardware in my experience.

If you're going for the full Debian experience than you must learn the Debian ways and don't expect a lot of help from certain Debian forums because certain Debian forums expect Debian users to learn the basics etc.

I like Debian based / built Linux distros as they are rock solid stable or at least the ones I use are.

All Linux Distros are good learning experience I'm always learning new stuff about Linux.

Guess I am an oddball, I just don't see the lure of bouncing around other distributions when Peppermint works so well?!?

PeppermintOS 8,9 & 10 Respins currently installed  on:
'16 Antec Aria rebuild
PMX Respin on '18 Asus VivoBook

Do not despair, grasshopper...
with patience all will be revealed...
       Through pain, enlightenment will come.

Here, Here Spence. I used to be hopper and the nightmare of installing nearly every other day other OSES, setting them up, then not feeling it something not right with it. Now so happy to have given that up, but still have the occasional look at other Ubuntu derivatives, or the occasional Arch system. No matter what though I always come back to Peppermint.  ;D
Not only is Peppermint an addictive OS to use.
But so is this Forum :)

Yeah I hear you guys I really was not hoppertitus  that got me LOL  :D
I am sure we all have our own  experiences   with how we got to linux.
Mine started with Ubuntu  way back in 2006 then moved to Mint with the gnome drama....
I stayed with Mint until they started focusing on Cinnamon(I just grew tired of it)  finally I left Mint in 2016 and found Pep. 7 :-*

Why i hard drive crashed....LOL  ;) (It was 15 yrs) old
I really had no real reason to leave pep other than it was an opportunity.

I took the Network install from a minimal CD route on Debian LOL

Believe me... I have had my  experiences with bad forum .....folk if you will   :(...... Pep has the best by far forum base to me..
With that said.... I sort of stay away from the deb forums....... have not really needed to use them anyway.

but...Looking back if I had to say the few things that were really starting to bother me about pep ....Now.... this is personal preference..... ;)....but
  • I prefer Thunar over nemo - I just like Thunar's interface
  • I did not like the multiple App Stores....terminal was just fine with me

That was it... petty I know... again it was not the cause of the move.

I did bring Ice with me of course ..LOL

That's why we have linux.... right... freedom of matter....

Hi grafiksinc,

I can understand your personal prefs being ... well ... personal !!  ;D I have my little personal fetishes as well: I prefer spaceFM over nemo, but I must admit that I use nemo almost as much as spaceFM  :-\ I know that doesn't make much sense ... but that's the way I do it.  :P I also only use medit as my text editor. Why? It just works for me and is very quick.

And as for the app stores: I never use any of them and just delete them. But I use synaptic more than the CLI for package management.

Then there is the desktop. The stock one is really good. But (personal preferences again!) I just like to keep things light and minimal and use JWM, awesome and fluxbox more than the stock desktop. Of course they take some time to set up when a new Peppermint release gets installed, but I don't mind that. And it keeps my wife happy that I use my spare time setting those up rather than hopelessly chasing younger skirts!  :D Of course, that might change (the hopeless part, I mean) if I ever meet up with VinDSL in Vegas one of these days ...  :o

But, after all has been said and done, I stay here because of the following: Peppermint works better for me than anything else I have tested, bar none!  ;) I also like the light-weight mix of components; of course, the forum also holds me here!! A terrific bunch of people!!  8)

Thanks for showing up again. It was nice to hear from you.

Respect science, respect nature, respect each other.

Tread lightly: Fluxbox, JWM, i3, Openbox, awesome

Yup, love this forum .. keeps me sane (ish) :)

Nemo is IMHO the best file manager out there, and the two software managers were kind of forced on us because mintinstall doesn't list snaps, and gnome-software doesn't list the peppermint-pack (metapackages) ::)

But at the end of the day, defaults are just that "defaults" .. they can be changed ;)
