ERROR message? SOLVED Sort of
« on: September 24, 2019, 01:06:10 pm »
Good day all,
I have an old tower desk top l have been playing with and had decided to load it with LM but it is not capable of handling the OS so l had looked into other distros and came upon PEPPERMINT and it looked very nice.
I just downloaded the latest version (?) and verified it, burned it onto a dvd and attempted to load it. I have tried running live and a full install but am receiving a message on the screen (error?) as follows:
[    3.182299] sis630_smbus 0000:00:02:0: SIS630 compatible bus not detected, module not inserted.

Now this has me totally stumped...l am just an amateur computer geek and relatively new to Linux Mint

There is nothing on this computer worth salvaging so l can do whatever it needs to try to get it up and running...it has Pentium 4 , 2.66Ghz CPU , 8kb with 512 kb ram.

Thanks
Dave

Maybe try Peppermint 8 32bit then, which is based on the same 16.04 code base as LM17 .. because I think you'll struggle with that SiS chipset on recent distros (SiS hasn't been supported for some time now).

Just spent the morning disassembling  the old tower..parts are now in plastic bags hoping l may find someone needing a part l have rather than placing in landfill. Thanks for the suggestions!
