There's a GUI (Graphical User Interface) front end for that .. youtube-dlg

For Peppermint 9
https://launchpad.net/~nilarimogard/+archive/ubuntu/webupd8/+files/youtube-dlg_0.4-1~webupd8~bionic9_all.deb
download that file and double-click to install

For Peppermint 7/8
you'll need to download 2 filess and install them in this order
https://launchpad.net/~nilarimogard/+archive/ubuntu/webupd8/+files/python-twodict_1.2-1~webupd8~xenial0_all.deb
then
https://launchpad.net/~nilarimogard/+archive/ubuntu/webupd8/+files/youtube-dlg_0.4-1~webupd8~xenial4_all.deb
download that file and double-click to install

In either case you'll then find it in the main menu under

Menu > Internet > YouTube DL GUI

Yes, I've "downloaded" a few videos and even a few full lenght gigs using it :)
Only used it from the command line, though.

An alternative, which I haven't tried is avideo. Supposably, more secure.

I really love ClipGrab. it fixes a lot of issues I had with youtube-dl. But I have a problem adding it to my menu. :-[ For now I have to access it from my downloads folder, which is not a big issues. But I feel like I am missing something. :-\ Peppermint peeps? Can y'all help me out here?

Thanks for any advice/help/criticism.  :D

Hi drakken,

All you need to do is to provide the full path (in the menu item's line for executing ClipGrab) to your ClipGrab AppImage file. For example, if your ClipGrab is located at

Code: [Select]
/home/drakken/Videos

the line would look like this:

Code: [Select]
/home/drakken/Videos/ClipGrab-3.8.4-x86_64.AppImage

Note that you might need to modify the version number to match the file that you have downloaded.  ;)

Okay here's what I do...

Create a hidden folder called .AppImages to keep any appimages in
Code: [Select]
mkdir ~/.AppImages
create a subdirectory for ClipGrab:
Code: [Select]
mkdir ~/.AppImages/ClipGrab
make it the current directory:
Code: [Select]
cd ~/.AppImages/ClipGrab
download the ClipGrab appimage into it:
Code: [Select]
wget https://download.clipgrab.org/ClipGrab-3.8.4-x86_64.AppImage
make the ClipGrab-3.8.4-x86_64.AppImage executable:
Code: [Select]
chmod +x ~/.AppImages/ClipGrab/ClipGrab-3.8.4-x86_64.AppImage
download an image to use as an icon:
Code: [Select]
wget http://icons.iconarchive.com/icons/papirus-team/papirus-apps/256/clipgrab-icon.png
create a launcher for it by running:
Code: [Select]
xed ~/.local/share/applications/clipgrab.desktop
and when a blank file opens, make it read:-
Code: [Select]
[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Name=ClipGrab
Comment=Download YouTube, Dailymotion, etc. Video Clips
Exec=/home/mark/.AppImages/ClipGrab/ClipGrab-3.8.4-x86_64.AppImage
Icon=/home/mark/.AppImages/ClipGrab/clipgrab-icon.png
Terminal=false
StartupWMClass=ClipGrab
Categories=Network;
StartupNotify=false
(be sure to change the 2 instances of 'mark' to your username)

SAVE the file.

You should now have a launcher at

Menu > Internet > ClipGrab
