how add euro sign ()
« on: August 25, 2019, 02:02:50 am »
I can't add the euro ()  symbol.
I would like (leftwin+E) or (anywin+E)
I have used several Linux distributions in the past and have always found a way to add the euro symbol.
Now i can't...!!!
Can somebody help me?

Thank you for your attention!!

Using leftWin would be impossible because that's already bound to opening the whiskermenu.

But if you have a RightWin key...

Open a terminal and run:
Code: [Select]
xfce4-keyboard-settings
on the "Layout" tab, click the dropmenu titled "Compose Key", and select "Right Win".

Now if you quickly hit RightWin+E+= you should get a symbol

[EDIT]

The last option in this post may turn out to be the best for those currently using the "English (US)" keyboard layout .. so check that first.

[END EDIT]

Try Compose Key = RightAlt

then RightAlt+E+=

Works for me.

This may not work with the English (US) aka. enUS keyboard layout .. but it should work with the English (UK) aka. enGB layout

Also, if you have Compose Key set to nothing/blank .. I'm pretty sure AltGr+4 enters the symbol.
(again, it does for me with the enGB layout .. I think it does with the enUS layout too, but if not try AltGr+5)

Another option is to enter the unicode sequence 20ac

Hit Ctrl+Shift+U .. then type unicode sequence 20ac followed by hitting the Enter (or Spacebar) key.

Another option might be to swap a character key that you don't use such as ^ (asciicircum - Shift+6) to print with xmodmap
Code: [Select]
xmodmap -e "keycode 15 = 6 EuroSign 6 EuroSign"
Now Shift+6 should print

you can undo this with
Code: [Select]
xmodmap -e "keycode  15 = 6 asciicircum 6 asciicircum"
if that works, you'll need to autorun that at system startup, or it'll be lost on logging off/on (or rebooting

And (as an enUS layout user) YET ANOTHER method would be  to change your keyboard layout to "English (US, alt. intl.)" .. then AltGr+e will give you a symbol.

Thank you for your help!!!

I use English(US) and Greek layout

for me to write the euro symbol () works only :

  • in the Greek layout
  • compose key to nothing (-)
  • AltGr+5
i think is better choice ... and i stay here
