Sorry to revive an old thread, but how do you get that side panel to look so good? Last time I tried to install Conky it just did not want to work for me. It wanted to take up 3/4 of my screen and was centered. Also all of the modules were layered on top of each other. How is yours so clean looking?

That started as a Conky script that I made for myself, around 2010-ish.

People were clambering for it, so I published it in the Ubu forums - which immediately pissed off the Conky Gurus, so called.

As a result, a true genius from Canada took pity on me, and decided to run support for my script. I didn't have time to support it, then or now. Matter of fact, the gurus disparagingly refer to me as "the guy who doesn't support his own work." LoL

They banned my support guy (185 IQ, color blind, and photographic memory), some time ago, but the thread is still going strong, 7 years later (275 pages, 2700 replies, 453,000 views).

Anyway, I hate to point you elsewhere but, if you want to check it out, here ya go: https://goo.gl/pn6SOS

I haven't changed the code much since 2010 - just made some changes here n' there for updates in Conky, ConkyWX, Lua, and so forth.

If you decide to give it a try, they have users that can help you, over there. I still don't have time to support it ...  8)

Ok thanks. Off topic, why'd they get pissed? Isn't one of the main points of Linux supposed to be community driven and people just helping each other out?

Because (in my experience) the Ubu forums are full of tin crowned despots and paper tigers .. simple as that.

I'm not saying everyone is like that, there are some terrifically helpful and friendly regulars over there (chili555 immediately springs to mind as one of the good guys) .. but there are enough idiots to make it uncomfortable.
(I think when any forum gets that big, sadly it's inevitable)

Great place to visit, but I wouldn't wanna live there :)

I totally agree with you.  It's a real shame too.  The way Ubuntu is promoted as the easy to use alternative to Windows.  Their forum should be welcoming, friendly, understanding and most of all, patient.  Instead, it's flip a coin and hope you're not entering on one of their, "walking on eggshells" days.  Even the Arch bunch have more of the latter, (and their WiKi is by far the best  ;)).  Ubuntu being one of the large, if not the largest Linux Forum, is seen by the outside world as representative of all Linux forums.  Unfortunately, their stink clings to us user friendly little forums  :'(.

Hail a weasel ?

Oh sorry, ermine :-[

The 'weasel' got rid of the orphaned inode problem I was having with the mainline kernel - that's all I care about.

Actually, I suspect it was the updated linux-libc-dev headers that worked a treat, but who's to say?

An ermine, by any other name, is just as sweet   ;)

Hello VinDSL,

A friend and neighbor of mine has been runningaudacity temp mail origin Peppermint on his old Dell Dimension 3000 since Windows XP went belly up.  That old computer is a solid as they come.  I remember you mentioning the Dimension 3000 in some thread within the forum several months ago.  Didn't you replace that old 80 GB hard drive with an SSD?

Anyway I'm glad to see Peppermint 9 is on your machine.  My friends computer is still running Peppermint 7.  What you've demonstrated to me here is that his old Dell still has a promising future, and that makes me very happy. :)

I'm very fond of the 32-bit Dell Dimension 3000.  That thing is built! :)

It sure is. ;)  The one I had been supporting, two weeks ago, took its final journey to our local recycling center. :(
