TOR browser
« on: August 15, 2019, 04:38:51 am »
Having installed Peppermint 10 I am not disappointed. It is fast and resposive. The updates far exceed anything else around, and that includes most Linux and ALL Windows OS.
BUT,having problems with TOR.
Can download and extract but cannot open, for some reason. It just sits there.
Any advice would be welcome. Tnx.

What happens when you try to launch it from the command line ?

and can you post how you installed tor ?

I've been reading online there may be problems with the tor browser devs GPG key having been poisoned.

WoW!  :o

I have a need for a Tor Browser, and spent hours unsuccessfully trying to verify the [poisoned?!] keys.

I finally gave up, attempting conventional repo installs, and haxored the tar ball. BOOM BABY!

I danced on the keyboard so long, I can't remember exactly what hack did the deed. LoL :))

If I get a chance, I'll do a fresh install and reproduce the workaround...

Interesting!

Tor refused to install correctly (invalid key) from the repos.

Less than 24 hours later, it updated just fine, from the repos.

Upgraded the following packages:
tor (0.4.0.5-2~bionic+1) to 0.4.1.5-1~bionic+1
tor-geoipdb (0.4.0.5-2~bionic+1) to 0.4.1.5-1~bionic+1

Go figure...  ::)
