So now I'm hooked. And utterly spoiled. And truly grateful.
« on: August 12, 2019, 03:22:27 pm »
A longish post, but I want to share it somewhere.  :)

I installed Peppermint for the first time a little while ago on a micro laptop powered by an intel atom processor with 2Gigs of RAM (you can find my stats here: https://forum.peppermintos.com/index.php/topic,8625.0.html). It worked absolutely beautifully, and I was suddenly able to use this little machine for just about everything - even a little bit of light gaming.

Last week I upgraded the RAM in that device to 8 Gigs, and went on a distro-hopping spree, looking for the perfect distro. I went through all the mint desktops, kubuntu, manjaro (a few of the desktops), elementary, pop os, and a number of others. All of them were excellent in one way or another, and I was impressed by what's on the table for linux these days. And yet, none of them felt as immediately comfortable and wonderful as Peppermint.

I've been thinking quite a bit about it, and I've come to realize that while other distros may be made with great care, or be polished and sexy, none of them is made with quite the same amount of love as Peppermint. After years of using linux (since around 2004, though always as a mostly-user), I think I've finally found my forever distro. I'll be shifting my other machines (a gaming-ish rig, an old mac from 2007, and a 10-year-old dell xps) to peppermint over the coming days (or perhaps pleasurable weekends  :D ).

I'd love to give back. I'm not too financially liquid, but I'm told I have a way with words  and I'd love to help in documentation efforts or whatever else might require a wordsmith. I'll also be glad to help anyone with their first steps - just pop me a message.

Thank you all for making such an amazing distro, and thank you all for making this community great.

-----

TLDR: Peppermint is really something special. How can I help?

He's hooked.

Just kidding... I know exactly what you mean, eruditorum.

I get a 'warm and fuzzy' every time I startup Peppermint; and, I've been using it since ver 2.

I lead a very nerve-wracking life, but Peppermint never fails to sooth the savage beast in me.

It's music to my eyes, at the end of the day.  : ;)

Ditto on the nerves.  And on that happy feeling every time it boots.  :D

It's a nice, calm system which manages to keep impressing. :)

Welcome, I've tried different distros and stopped hopping when I found Peppermint.

Also started out with a netbook, good times.

It's light and fast. Two things I can't say of any Microsoft OS.

Running Peppermint 8- 64 bit on my Lenovo i3 laptop.

Absolutely - both to where you're coming from and about the Microsoft OSes. Or indeed of Mac OS these days. My hopping days are over. I'll still try other distros, but it'll be in virtualbox.  ;) :D

Was this a riddle for the chemist?!  :D

C21H23NO5, a.k.a heroin

Although, in reallity it could be any of these, https://www.chemspider.com/Search.aspx?q=C21H23NO5

Hehehe, very true! :D

Allow me to amend it to: I now know which distro I'll always come back to. :)

Welcome eruditorum,

It took me literally two years of hopping from distro to distro, trying to find that certain thing, that no Linux Hopper has a clue on what that thing is.
I then got introduced to Peppermint seven and used it for a while on my laptop, then continued hopping on my desktop, trying to find a gaming Distro that works with everything I chuck at it. Peppermint eight came along and blew the socks off me, then Peppermint nine and finally ten. The certain thing I was looking for was heart and soul and whatever PCNetSpec does, with Peppermint he always, always surprises me on how he makes every release of Peppermint so fast. Not only that but the touches he adds to make our lives, the users lives so much easier. Like losing your mouse push alt+C together and a red ring comes up of where your mouse is on screen. The customizing right to the Kernel itself, you don't have to use just one icon set, you can pick and choose whatever you want by editing what icon you want to use for that certain app.

Peppermint settings panel where to change the layout and other tweaks all the way to the system it self and what I love about Peppermint, is the fact it's down to you the user, whatever you want to install it's never bloated, never tires, never gripes, just works and I totally agree with you, it's got heart and soul put into it. This forum the amount of time and dedication PCNetSpec puts in, answering peoples queries is second to none. No matter how trivial the question you will always get a answer and always with a 10/10 resolve. PCNetSpec deserves a accolade or something for his sheer hard work and dedication, to such a wonderful OS and Forum. This has to be the best forum on the planet, as everyone comes together and tries to help others.

Every time I boot up Peppermint I know I'm in for a good day, it does everything I chuck at it, within reason of course.  ;D
Not only is Peppermint an addictive OS to use.
But so is this Forum :)
