Nemo Freezing
« on: July 22, 2019, 10:18:05 am »
Hello Peppermint people. There was a post started about nemo slowing to a crawl, see here. There was no actual solution but I think I can verify that it is the newer version of nemo that is causing this. Nemo version 4.0.6 in my P 10 freezes when trying to save a simple scan to it. I noticed that nemo version 3.6.5 in P 9 works just fine as it always has, in my opinion. So I want to dump the 4.0.6 version of nemo and install the 3.6.5 version. How do I do that?  :-\

With great difficulty.

What makes you blame Nemo rather than simplescan or the kernel/xorg updates ?

Hi PCNetSpec, nemo freezes almost everytime I try to do anything in it, simplescan was just the most recent. I don't remember exactly when this started, maybe a couple of weeks, around the time that Linux Lover initiated a post about nemo being sluggish. I suppose it could be something other than nemo but how can I find that out? I don't care too much for PCManFM due to the lack of some right click options, also I don't know how to get to Networks for file sharing.

Also, this started after I upgraded to P 10 on my desktop. I don't appear to have any problems with nemo in P 9 on my laptop, which has nemo version 3.6.5. Difference with my laptop I don't do any printer stuff on it. But it's not just printer stuff, it's also copying and moving files within nemo or from an external memory. I decided to upgrade this installation to P 10 because I started having printer problems in P 9 an no printer problems in P 10.

The thing that's bothering me here is that if the problem lay at Nemo's feet, wouldn't EVERYONE be experiencing the same issue ?
(and I am not on multiple computers)

And there are other possible (in fact 'more likely') culprits, such as the later kernel and xorg stacks in Peppermint 10

It'd be interesting to know if you installed PM9, then followed the manual upgrade instructions to PM10 but DO NOT add the HWE.

This may even be self-solving when the HWE is updated in August.

I did do the manual upgrade to P 10 and I did add the HWE. But let me see if this is a constant problem for me even in my installed version of P 10 on a different partition. The upgraded P 10 is my daily driver that started having printer problems that are not present in the installed version of P 10. That's why I upgraded to P 10. I'll check that out later this afternoon.

Edit: I have no problem waiting for the HWE update.

I just booted up into the installed version of P 10 and nemo doesn't have the same problems I was having in the upgraded version. So I don't know what is causing the problem. I think I will wait and see if the HWE update has any affect, if not, then I'll reinstall P 10 on that partition.

Just an update, the HWE update didn't affect the nemo freezing so one of these days I'll reinstall P 10 or maybe just not use that partition until something comes along that I want to check out.

You might wanna wait a couple of weeks, there will be a new PM10 ISO out soon with the 5.0 kernel by default
(and nvidia 430 for those that use it)
