Windoze app on Peppermint 10.
« on: August 11, 2019, 07:36:28 am »
Hi.
New to linux, new to Linux (have tried before, but never found a version I could actually use), new to Peppermint.
Got things pretty much where I want them.
In addition I need to be able to play GW.
So I tried installing Wine as per https://www.pcsteps.com/10463-install-wine-linux-mint-ubuntu-run-windows-apps/
It ends with this msg:
Følgende pakker har uopfyldte afhængigheder:
 winehq-stable : Afhængigheder: wine-stable (= 4.0.1~cosmic) men den bliver ikke installeret
E: Kunne ikke korrigere problemerne, da du har tilbageholdt ødelagte pakker.
Roughly Translated:
The following packages has unresolved dependencies:
 winehq-stable : Dependencies: wine-stable (= 4.0.1~cosmic) but it is not being installed
E: Could not correct problems, as you have detained defect packages.

Why doent the installation simply fetch the packages it needs? Or how do I allow/instruct it to do so?
Is Wine the right thing to use for peppermint 10? (assume it is as Peppermint is derived from Ubuntu).
Thx.

It's not that their procedure is wrong it's that you've added the wine repos TWICE, once for 'cosmic' (which is wrong) and once for 'bionic' (which is right because Peppermint 10 is based on Ubuntu 18.04 aka. bionic).

Quote
deb https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/ cosmic main
# deb-src https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/ cosmic main

deb https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/ bionic main
# deb-src https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/ bionic main

Run:
Code: [Select]
gksudo xed /etc/apt/sources.list
REMOVE these two lines:-
Code: [Select]
deb https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/ cosmic main
# deb-src https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/ cosmic main
SAVE the file and close the text editor.

Back in the terminal run:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get update
to update the package cache information.

Now do you get any errors from:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install --install-recommends winehq-stable -y
?

That did the trick.
Thank you so much.

There were more than one place the 'cosmic' version was referenced.
Once cleared out, wine installed just fine - and so did GW.

So again: Thank you very much!

Well...

Had a problem (Still have) with Imageviewing.
Thought display driver might be the reason, so changed to the one recommended and written by the manufacturer (NVIDIA)
Peppermint never recovered from that.
So had to start over.

Followed the same tutorial, and did the same mistake.

and it should then be fairly easy to follow the same correctional path.

It does however now want to install a bionic InRelease - not the bionic main ...

it MUST be edited with elevated privileges .. so:
Code: [Select]
gksudo xed /etc/apt/sources.list
if that doesn't work, what's the output from:
Code: [Select]
namei -om /etc/apt/sources.list

It was my bad - and I figured that out. YAY!

But it now wants to install a version "bionic InRelease" not the "bionic main" it says in the source.list.

The problem now is simply a missing GPG key.

Run:
Code: [Select]
wget -q https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/winehq.key -O- | sudo apt-key add -
enter your password when prompted.

Now try
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get update
and the error should be fixed
