P10 5.0 kernel and rtl8812au-dkms failed.[SOLVED]
« on: August 04, 2019, 10:28:40 am »
Hello all, I have a little keyboard jig I do with every kernel update.
Accept the new kernel update >
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get remove rtl8812au-dkms >
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install rtl8812au-dkms > Normally then I would
Code: [Select]
sudo modprobe rtl8812au but this time the reinstallation returned:
Code: [Select]
Error! Bad return status for module build on kernel: 5.0.0-23-generic (x86_64)
Consult /var/lib/dkms/rtl8812au/4.3.8.12175.20140902+dfsg/build/make.log for more information.

here's the last few entries from that log file:

Might try a newer ver: https://is.gd/hamNI4

n/m looks like you have the latest ver  :)

Looking at the first step (and shooting from the hip) I think I would use:

Code: [Select]
sudo apt purge rtl8812au-dkms

just noted the update for dkms @PCNetSpec did my little remove/reinstall jig and still came up with:

Code: [Select]
Loading new rtl8812au-4.3.8.12175.20140902+dfsg DKMS files...
Building for 5.0.0-23-generic
Building initial module for 5.0.0-23-generic
Error! Bad return status for module build on kernel: 5.0.0-23-generic (x86_64)

Looking at the first step (and shooting from the hip) I think I would use:

Code: [Select]
sudo apt purge rtl8812au-dkms

redid this unintstall/reinstall jig again with your suggestion @VinDSL... :

Code: [Select]

Well that seems to have built the module for BOTH kernels successfully.

Have you tried booting into the 5.0 kernel again and checked if wireless works ?

If not, post the output from:
Code: [Select]
sudo lshw -C networkand
Code: [Select]
rfkill listand
Code: [Select]
iwlist scan

Booted into 5.0 kernel, wifi dongle doesn't connect...

Code: [Select]
sudo lshw -C network
  *-network
       description: Ethernet interface
       product: Ethernet Connection (2) I219-V
       vendor: Intel Corporation

       size: 1Gbit/s

and
Code: [Select]
rfkill list returns nothing

and
Code: [Select]
iwlist scan
enp0s31f6  Interface doesn't support scanning.

What happens if you (in the 5.0 kernel)  run:
Code: [Select]
sudo modprobe rtl8812au?

Code: [Select]

and now:
