Good to see Peppermint still doing the netbook thing .. where I first started :)

Though I bet 1GB RAM is a little painful on 18.04 based builds (?), IIRC I kinda gave up on <2GB systems and Ubuntu after 14.04 .. it'll work for sure, but sadly it's not the best experience any more :(

I have a lot of 'painfully slow' machines, but I continue to upgrade and use them anyway.

At the other end of the scale, I have some 'blindingly fast' machines. I upgrade them, but rarely turn them on.

I'm at a loss to explain this, other than to say, it's akin to owning a classic car, or '42 Indian Chief motorcycle.

The only thing that sucks on my Eee PC is when I open a modern browser window. Then, it slows to a crawl.

I've been looking around for a suitable substitute, but yet to find one. In the meantime, it's what I make of it.

P10 & Linux 4.18.x is a wicked combination. It's not painful at all, until one starts aimlessly surfing the web.

I'll, at least, warn the owner about the limitations of this thing.
1GB and HDD is not a good duo  :D

Tell 'em to dual-boot it with winders XP. That's what I do.

Just don't hook it up to the web...  :D

Hey, that's what it was designed to use.

My Eee PC even has a 'speed boot' haxor baked into the BIOS, and a hidden partition on the drive to accommodate it.

XP is fun to mess with - like playing with fire, behind the house, when I was a kid.

It's okay until you start the field on fire, you know?   ;D

Seriously, as I've said before, the only reason I keep XP around is so I can update/maintain my print server.

Netgear, in their infinite wisdom, made their proprietary print server utility XP specific, and there's no workaround AFAIK, but I digress.

I think XP is more akin to messing with nitroglycerine than a zippo at this point :)

I'd feel MUCH safer bunging say Ubuntu 10.10 on it .. which by comparison would be akin to safety matches inside a fire retardant box :))

Now, that was nice. I'd say, more like nitroglycerine in a shaker  :D
