P10 weird keyboard issue. [SOLVED]
« on: July 13, 2019, 05:35:25 am »
Hi Peppermint community.

So last week I ran into a strange problem I've never encountered before regarding keyboard behavior.
I will provide as much information as possible here.

I am using 2 keyboard "settings": English and Swedish. I switch between them when I need to. After installing P10 for the first time when I got this ASUS notebook and manually choose these 2 keyboard layouts NEITHER my touchpad and the notebooks' keyboard as well as my external (USB 2.0) keyboard and mouse will not work after I reboot after installation.
No matter what I try it won't work so I can't log into P10. Also I can't provide you guys with any logs because of that.

Restarted a few times, no change. Unplugged the external mouse and keyboard, restart and can't write with the ASUS keyboard WITH external mouse and keyboard detached.

In the mere 6 years I've been using Linux (many distros) this is the first time I've ever encountered this. Also I couldn't find the issue on this forum so I thought I'd put it here for Devs to look into.

No further issues, everything is working excellent. If you need any outputs from from a command to provide more information please let me know. :)

What version of BIOS are you running?

Version 305 is the latest: https://www.asus.com/Laptops/X540SA/HelpDesk_BIOS/

Just curious...  :)

EDIT: I just remembered something. I used the 2 settings (keyboard ) before in P10 with no problems. Only AFTER installing (from repo) FIREJAIL and VirtualBox these problems occurred. Before there where no problems. Did it twice this way with the result that I had to reinstall 2 times. After installing these programs I could type with either keyboards but after RESTART I couldn't use them anymore. Dunno, thought this addition could be helpful.

If firejail is breaking things...

maybe:-
https://github.com/netblue30/firejail/issues/2841
or maybe:-
https://github.com/netblue30/firejail/issues/1302
but you should really raise this issue on the firejail github issues page:
https://github.com/netblue30/firejail/issues
because firejail is from the universe repos, so as a third party 'community maintained' package isn't supported by us or upstream Ubuntu.

Please don't view this as me ducking the issue, more explaining the best place to seek help if firejail is indeed at the root of the problem.

Nah, we're cool.  8)

There is a reason why I've waited a bit to post this issue because after all this happened I sort of "investigated"  the issue myself and all I could think of as a possible disturbance was indeed firejail as it is extremely buggy the last few versions. Unfortunately.

So seeing you "pointing fingers" at it as a possibility of freakishness is no surprise.  Second opinion sort of thing and also to check my "level" of Linux knowledge.  ;)

Thanks. Much appreciated.  8)
