WARNING!!
On NetBSD the .iso images are for CD-ROM only. To boot from USB you need the install.img.gz file.
Fetch it from http://nycdn.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD-daily/netbsd-8/latest/images/
Run gunzip to unpack and use dd to write the unpacked image to the USB  ;)
Once booted choose your keyboard layout and drop to console using Ctrl+c
To check wifi use ifconfig to find your card, then ifconfig card up and ifconfig card list scan to find your SSID.
Shout if you need  :)

LoL Now you tell me.

Code: [Select]
╭─vindsl@Boogaloo-6 ~/Downloads/ISOs
╰─$ sudo dd if=NetBSD-8.1_STABLE-i386.iso of=/dev/sdc1 bs=32k                     1 ↵
[sudo] password for vindsl:
21878+1 records in
21878+1 records out
716902400 bytes (717 MB, 684 MiB) copied, 0.448485 s, 1.6 GB/s
╭─vindsl@Boogaloo-6 ~/Downloads/ISOs
╰─$

USB install wasn't happy.  :D

41600+0 records out
1363148800 bytes (1.4 GB, 1.3 GiB) copied, 0.972667 s, 1.4 GB/s
╭─vindsl@Boogaloo-6 ~/Downloads/ISOs

 8) Nice!
So, could you grep any warning or error out of dmesg? Was your eeepc's hardware supported?

I'd probably look around for a newer Dell E series locally and offer to trade with Dad @pin... "here this will work better for you... "

Thx spence! That's a nice suggestion  :)
I could also swap it with an old HP i have, but I don't have it with me. Anyway, 4.4.0-83 its working.

I need to put this off for a bit. Got a real-life situation going on - prepping for a visit to our attorneys today, blah, blah, blah.

Anyway, I've got a bootable USB now. Dialog looks good, while it's booting, but I don't want to accidentally overwrite Peppermint 10.

My current thought is, I'd like to install BSD to my newly discovered SDXC capes. BSD is seeing the 65GB Lexmark flash card as a SCSI device, so that's encouraging.

I'll revisit all this on the weekend...  ;)

Not sure I understood  :-\
Are you planning to install on the SD-card and boot the eeepc from it?
Or, are you talking about a different machine?

I still have fekery swirling around me. For instance:

Last night, there was a massive power outage. and it was still 104F. I had to move my family to a safe location, for the night.

As an aside, I was shooting for 100 days uptime on this machine, but I only made it to 92. Damn monsoons  >:(

Anyway, no, I haven't had a chance to do anything except watch my back, for the past week or two.

I'll get to it, by n' by. I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work. It boots from the USB stick, just fine; and, booting from the SD card is one of the (three) options, when I press the <Esc> button, at startup.

That is so funny Mark :))
Not only is Peppermint an addictive OS to use.
But so is this Forum :)
