LibreOffice Impress Slide Show freezing [SOLVED]
« on: July 29, 2019, 04:24:05 am »
Hi

I'm running LO 6.2.5.2 on PO10 which I installed following the upgrade steps from PO9.  The machine is an Acer ZG5 with 1.5G RAM ten+ years old but still going strong!

Although I'm an occasional user of the LO suite I recently needed to run a PowerPoint presentation on my ZG5.  Although Impress seemed to render everything fine the problems started when I used the Slide Show function.  After a couple of the slides the presentation just froze and became unresponsive.  Using Alt-tab I reverted to edit mode and killed Impress with a warning the the application was busy and not responding.

Reproducing the problem I ran HTOP and coudn't see an unusual behaviour. Likewise searches for solutions drew a blank for this LO version and Ubuntu.  I did read that it might be graphic card related but there I'm out of my comfort zone...

Can anybody help resolve, please?

Solution: commandered an underused HP X360 11-K running W10 and installed LO - the freezing Slide Show now works fine!

As I'm pretty sure the zg5 is 32bit only, maybe try the 32bit version of either

WPS Office
http://kdl.cc.ksosoft.com/wps-community/download/8392/wps-office_11.1.0.8392_i386.deb
downloads page
http://wps-community.org/downloads

or

Softmaker FreeOffice
https://www.softmaker.net/down/softmaker-freeoffice-2018_966-01_i386.deb
downloads page

IIRC, OnlyOffice is 64bit only .. so that's out of the question on the zg5.

Or maybe you could have used the Microsoft Office (Online) SSB's in the main menu.

Thanks, Mark -  I hadn't considered the architecture but have checked the installed version of LibreOffice and it is i386 as is Impress.  Yes, you're right Acer ZG5 is 32-bit.  LibreOffice 6.2.5 is available for both 32-bit and 64-bit machines as Linux deb or rpm based distros.

If 32-bit is not the issue then I'll try and generate a LO error log and report back.

[Update] Ran soffice in terminal with this output:
Code: [Select]
[xcb] Unknown sequence number while processing queue
[xcb] Most likely this is a multi-threaded client and XInitThreads has not been called
[xcb] Aborting, sorry about that.
soffice.bin: ../../src/xcb_io.c:259: poll_for_event: Assertion `!xcb_xlib_threads_sequence_lost' failed.
This has not been reported before for Impress but other LibreOffice components such as Calc and Writer.  I've raised this on Ask LO so will leave this open for a while until I hear back.
