Printer Notifications (SOLVED)
« on: July 08, 2019, 03:10:42 pm »
I don't seem to be getting printer notifications and I haven't been able to find a setting to enable these.

Is there another one of those magic lines of script will do this for me please?

Thanks.

And do you have an HP printer? If so: do you have the hplip-gui package installed? It will give you the notifications -- at least for HP printers.

Peppermint Linux found my networked printer and it prints ok. However I get no notification that a document is being printed, the printing is complete, etc which would be handy at times as my printer is in another room upstairs.

I haven't installed hplip-gui as I thought that as the printer was printing ok, I didn't need it. However if this will give the notifications I am looking for then it's a simple solution. I'll give that a try tonight when I get home.

Thanks for your help again gents.

Hi Brianrh,

There are two apps in the hplip-gui package that I frequently use: hp-toolbox & hp-print. I get all sorts of info (notifications) about what the printer is doing and its current status, etc. so I think that is what you want, but it might only do this for HP printers (which is why I asked). Let me know how it goes.  ;)

You haven't mentioned the make/model of printer....

hplip will ONLY work for HP printers .. it's pointless installing hplip-gui for a non-HP printer.

Sorry guys I had intended to put the make of printer in my first post and thought I had until I went back and read it again.

Fortunately our printer is a HP so shortly I will install hplip and print something off.

Thanks.

Hi semola,

As you probably noticed, this thread has been marked as SOLVED. Since your issue does not involve an HP printer, it would be much better for you to create a new thread with a descriptive title (e.g. Printer notifications for Samsung printer). We prefer that for each thread, only one specific issue should be handled.  ;)
