keyboard back-light

Could anyone suggest how to get the keyboard back-lighting to work?

What keyboard (make/model) ? .. I'd have expected it to "just work"  :-\

Are you sure it works on a Windows PC ? ..  and without the need for any software ?

It's a Dell Studio Laptop... http://forum.peppermintos.com/index.php/topic,712.msg6025.html#msg6025

My bad. A user error. It was a function+F6 key that turns it on/off.

Ahh . in that case .. try Fn+F6 then thank some guy called  lancenapier for the solution ;)
