OBS fails to initialize
« on: July 02, 2019, 04:21:08 pm »
Hi guys
I,m trying to run OBS to experiment with livestreaming, I've installed it from the package manager but when I open it I instantly get the following error

"Failed to initialize video.  Your GPU may not be supported, or your graphics drivers may need to be updated."

It doesn't look good I've Additional Drivers but there's none offered

Here's my spec

The problem seems to be an unsupported GPU/driver so my question is is there any way around this or is it a lost cause

Unfortunately, this might not work for you. On the OBS specs page it says OpenGL 3.2 but your GM965 supports 2.1.

Hi drkmttr
Thanks for your reply

Yeah you're right but I hoping there's a way round this otherwise I'm in the market for another laptop, the problem is I very rarely use my laptop but I need it for this project

Thanks for your help

Hi emegra

no idea if it's available with he free version but Jitsi conferencing can live stream apparently and if you are the only caller, so to speak, you can show your screen instead of yourself.    It may not be ideal but worth a look.

Another option might be SimpleScreenRecorder which apparently has the ability to live stream.
