VLC issues.
« on: June 20, 2019, 01:05:09 pm »
Hi, fellow Peppers.  8)

So I have this brand new Asus notebook, right? Running P10, 64bit flawlessly. Enjoying HD video mostly, awesomeness.

Running the default media player up until 15 minutes ago I thought I'd install VLC player, for old times sake.
Loading a 1080px BlueRay copy, sit back and..........FREEZE!!!!! Wouldn't even play it. CPU and Mem use normal.

Anyone else having these issues? Thought I'd put it out here.

Default player rules! Back on it and will stay on it.  ;)
If it ain't broke.........

VLC is usually fixable if you change some settings, but this is precisely why we switched to xplayer, the user shouldn't need to know/do this :)

In VLC. go to:-

Tools > Preferences

Select "All" bottom left

then navigate to

Video
   Output modules

and try the different output modules.

Thanks for the reply, I might or might not "fix" VLC since xplayer is great. Is it just me or is VLC performing poorer the last 2 years?  *Shrugs*

To de-install or not to de-install. That is the question.  :)

I have not used VLC for a few years now because of that very reason.

I use smplayer instead.

So it isn't just me. It's always been my favorite player by far but got annoyed lately with it.  Thought it was ue to old hardware or lack of RAM, anything except VLC not working properly. Until I fired it up on this brand new notebook and the rest is history.

Overdeveloped perhaps? Dunno.

Under developed for Linux more like .. it's still probably the best media player available in Windows.

It's just the Linux version that's gone downhill over the last couple of years.
