[SOLVED] Peppermint5 installed in legacy mode problem
« on: August 17, 2014, 10:49:22 am »
Hi all
After trying without success installing in uefi mode (i need a dual boot system windows 8.1+linux), i gave up and installed in legacy mode without any problems
Now, if i want to boot peppermint, i have to change boot order in BIOS everytime and change it back to uefi mode when i need to boot into windows 8.1
I would like to avoid all that hassle.

I have seen this video about the same type of installation, starting with legacy mode and then changing it to uefi.
Needless to say the video is about another distribution, but I wonder if i can follow the same steps with peppermint.

Step1: Make some space for LXLE 14.04 in Windows
Step2: Boot LXLE 14.04 live disk in Legacy mode
Step3: Make three partitions in the free space
Step4: Install LXLE 14.04 in those partitions
-This is what i've done so far-

Step5: Boot Ubuntu Live Media in UEFI Mode
Step6: Mount LXLE 14.04 partition on /mnt
Step7: Mount EFI partition on /mnt/boot/efi
Step8: Mount /dev/pts /dev/ /proc /sys /var/run /run on /mnt$i
Step9: Chroot into /mnt
Step10: Install grub2-efi, run grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg, run grub-install /dev/sda
Step11: Done. Reboot.

What do you think?

Thanks in advance

I don't see why you could not follow that video since lxle is based on Lubuntu and so is peppermint 5, but I would hold off until someone who knows for sure says it is ok...   ;)
