Cannot burn mp3s to audio cd (SOLVED)
« on: June 06, 2019, 12:51:56 am »
So I've been trying to burn a collection of songs to a cd-r using xfburn and each time I get a "Failure: Burn run failed"  When I ran it in the terminal the error I got back was:

SCSI error on write(-59,13): [3 0C 00] Medium error. Write error. (0)

I can burn dvds and other formats but audio cd seems to be the only bugger.

If anybody has any suggestions that would be great.  Thanks everyone.

Probably hardware or media, they use a different laser for CD than DVD.

Have you checked if there's a firmware update for the writer ?

Goolging the error 3 0C 00 seems to suggest it's a media error .. but could equally be hardware .. one result suggested updating the firmware on a LiteOn writer fixed the issue for someone.

I started using Sony CD-R disks and they burned without any issues.   I assume the Phillips CD-R 52x speed disks are not compatible with the drive.?  I would be grateful if you could tell me if that makes sense or not.  Either way thanks for the response and I consider it a solved issue.

Not all disks are created equal .. what can I tell you ;)

The Philips ones MIGHT work in another drive, or they might not

Theoretically it could still be a hardware issue and the more sensitive Sony disks are just masking the issue .. it's kinda hard to tell where the fault lies with optical drives/media.

In the past I've bought plenty of disks that wouldn't (or would rarely) work in say a LiteOn drive, but worked fine in a Pioneer .. and (to a lesser extent) vice versa.

I used to swear by Pioneer optical drives back in the day....
(long time ago now though .. haven't used optical in probably a decade)
