Yeah, this Dell 7010 'bot machine' is a weirdo. Three monitors, split into 4 screens per desktop - serving tunes 24/7/365.

I've got a long history with these Dell 7010 boxes - I currently own three of them, and I used several of them at work, for years. Still, as long as it works, IDGAF.

I've only found one kernel that will work with this rig - Linux 4.15.0.23-generic. No other ver will work. I've tried Linux 4.15.0.20-generic through Linux 4.15.0.68-generic; and, none of them will even boot. They all drop dead at boot with an initramf prompt in your face.

Dittos for the nVidia GeForce drivers. The only driver I've found, that will work on this machine is ver 396.54 (which isn't available any longer). I've never seen anything like it. LoL

Anyway, if it only breaks even 100+ days, I won't complain. It gives me a chance to update winders 10 (dual booted) if nothing else   ;)

A coffee without your glasses on that was for English Bob.  :D
Not only is Peppermint an addictive OS to use.
But so is this Forum :)

Well, here is an interesting twist   :)

A few days ago, I realized that the sound of my podcasts, music, and audio et al. sucked.  So, I checked the equalizer. LoL It had disappeared, so I installed the default 'pulseaudio-equalizer'.

After a day of fiddling with that POS, it came to mind that I always install the webupd8 ver of 'pulseaudio-equalizer'. So, I installed it on my 'daily driver'.

Problem solved...

Upon reflection, I couldn't remember if PM came with the default 'pulseaudio-equalizer', or the webupd8 ver. I checked my 32-bit Dell doorstop.  Sure enough; PM is using the default stinker ver. So, I installed the webupd8 ver. to make sure it works on 32-bit machines - and, it did..

Second problem solved...

Any interest, in adding a proper 'pulseaudio-equalizer' sink to PM? Or, is everyone else already doing this  :-\

I could have sworn I'd tried the 14.04 version and it didn't work .. because the 18.04 version took some shoehorning in (and wasn't as good).

Yep, we'll go back to this version in the respin .. cheers :)

Just gotta see if I can get it to build against 18.04 on launchpad so I can change the version number and prevent it wanting to update back to the (higher) 18.04 version.

If not, I guess I can always build it against 14.04 on lanchpad with a higher version number .. then re-version it to 18.04
(kind of a launchpad cheat, but it should work :)))

Sounds like a plan.

I'm as lazy as the next guy. I 'force' the install & 'pin' the ver in Synaptic...  ;)

Yeah I can't be 'pinning' stuff on peoples systems though .. gotta do it 'properly' (even if 'properly' does include doing some kind of weird launchpad 'dance') :)

There's rules you know :))
