Ubuntu Desktop Installed Over Peppermint
« on: June 09, 2019, 01:22:52 pm »
I accidentally delete the Python-3 as I thought it was not important. And my Peppermint 9 crashed. I was afraid to lose all my family photo archives, documents, bills which I did not have a backup.
After searching for 6-7 hours, I found a way to update/fix the OS. However, I noticed this time Ubuntu Desktop was installed.
Now I have Peppermint Logo on start-up and Shutdown but on the other hand, Ubuntu desktop starts after startup buffer line finishes.
I did not understand how it happened. But I realised after a day, the startup (boot) time is over 5 minutes and sometimes freezing. I had to hard push the power button to reboot again.

What is the way out of this? Can I remove the Peppermint and leave Ubuntu or visa versa?
What is the advise? Thank you!

Here is the analysis of Startup

Startup finished in 4.529s (kernel) + 5min 32.760s (userspace) = 5min 37.289s reached after 5min 32.737s in userspace

Somewhere along the way your network settings seem to have also messed up (the slow boot seems network related), now we could try to fix your Ubuntu/Peppermint schizophrenic system, then have to diagnose and fix networking which could take forever .. seriously, the easiest (and certainly the quickest) way out of this would be to backup your user files then nuke and pave.

And next time (no matter which distro), don't remove python or python3 ;)

Hi alterwolf, welcome to Peppermint. Your situation is a perfect example for why I always recommend making a DATA partition and symlinking your home folders to it. Look it up, slimfatz has a tutorial on how to do it.
What was I thinking?
