webcam and microphone
« on: June 02, 2019, 02:58:28 pm »
Just got to wondering:this laptop has a built in webcam and,I presume, microphone. So far I have'nt seen any thing in Peppermint 9 that would allow me to disable these two features, since I never use them.I've been searching thru the menu, but have't seen these settings so far.Computer is a Dell Latitude i5 dual core.

One of the things that I --purge from the system right away is guvcview, which controls the camera on my new laptop... you can silence the microphone via the input settings in PulseAudio...

There's only one way to 100% satisfy the camera averse tinfoil hat man inside us all .. a bit of electrical tape :)

or maybe

[EDIT]

And when the phone manufacturers finally figure out how to hide a camera under the screen without a notch/hole, we're all buggered.

As for microphones, you can never be 100% sure about those .. a phone screen can already act as a speaker by vibrating (and a mic is just the other way around), and you can easily turn a window (or any other surface) into a mic .. plus who would notice an extra tiny hole on a motherboard somewhere ?

And who knows what IME does right ?

That said, if they really wanna watch/listen to you, they're gonna .. whether you have a computer or not.
