ok so peppermint did not really install system sounds as long as i know its not broken or something isn't wrong
i'm ok with no sounds, this log in sound really made it feel a bit more alive to me that i'm honestly fine with just this
i just felt maybe something was wrong with my OS.

Glad to hear that PCNetSpec got you a log-in sound to work! Now, of course, you can replace that sound file (currently desktop-login.ogg) with any other sound file you prefer as an alternative login sound -- just remember to change the name in the file you created
Code: [Select]
~/.config/autostart/login-sound.desktop

to reflect the new sound file you prefer to hear.

Yes it probably CAN be done (as we're based on Ubuntu the same as Mint), but why ? .. as I said Peppermints ethos is to stay lightweight

Why choose a lightweight distro, then attempt to turn it into Mint .. why not just use Mint in the first place ?

Dunno about midi.

ok more or less just wanted to make sure everything was ok thats all i actually can't use a heavy weight distro as i have an older computer
and i quite like peppermint even over ubuntu which i have used in the past. More or less just thougth something was wrong with my comp
and now i know there isn't. I actually prefer an over all quite computer. But the log in sound is a nice feature i think other than that
this is fine. i have download a sound Computer_Start-Up-Your_Mom-1280862923.mp3 i want this as my login sound how can i change this?

You just need to Google or Duck-Duck around on the internet for sound files.

Being a musician you could even make your own: e.g. if you play a keyboard instrument and know how to record it on your computer, then record a G7b9 in the format (for example) .ogg or .mp3 and name it, say, myJazzyLogin.ogg or myJazzyLogin.mp3

Now save the file where you wish, say in your home directory's Music folder.

Then open your terminal and enter
Code: [Select]
gedit ~/.config/autostart/login-sound.desktop

Find this line:
Code: [Select]
Exec=/usr/bin/mplayer /usr/share/sounds/ubuntu/stereo/desktop-login.ogg

and change it to this:
Code: [Select]
Exec=/usr/bin/mplayer ~/Music/myJazzyLogin.ogg

SAVE the file. Log off/on to test.

And, above all: HAVE FUN!!!  8)
