Peppermint 10 - how do I set up autoplay [SOLVED]
« on: May 25, 2019, 04:09:26 pm »
(The solution to my autoplay problem is in the second post - just below this one.)

Assuming autoplay is possible of course. I have installed Clementine for my music CDs and VLC player for my DVDs. I also ran the magic commands to make VLC play DVDs which it did not do after the initial download. At this point I can insert a CD or DVD, then open Clementine or VLC and manually get things to play. Now I would like Clementine to start automatically when I load a music CD, then start playing. Also, when I insert a DVD I would like VLC to start automatically and get to the initial menu.

Is this possible with Peppermint? If so, what do I need to do?

So the answer is no autoplay for the out of the box install but it can be added back. So I added it back and it works. Thanks

For music CDs it defaulted to vlc just as it did for DVDs, so I changed it to Clementine in the settings dialog. Clementine launches but it does not start playing. Are there arguments I need to add to make that happen?

I will mention that I have also been trying Linux Mint XFCE which already had that Removable Drives and Media item under settings. So I guess there's a difference of opinion about whether to include this autoplay option.

For now Peppermint is looking good but I need to do more testing. Also I picked Clementine for the music CDs because of its features, but for some reason the information about the artist and titles are not being received. Any ideas on this?

there are other tag apps you can get, that'll pick up the artist, songs, who wrote it, year, what they had for dinner and that kind of thing.  ;D
Below are some videos I found about Clementine

Not only is Peppermint an addictive OS to use.
But so is this Forum :)

So what is a tag app? Are you saying I have to add something to get the data needed for Clementine, that it's not built in?

I don't use Clementine myself, but according to the videos I put up, they said it supports tagging out of the bag, in other words, getting all the info for your tracks.

You could install K3B it rips CD's and DVD's plus it stores all the album info, you can still use Clementine as a player.  ;D

Or there is this player ;D
https://itsfoss.com/strawberry-music-player/
Don't bother with this link it does not work the link works but the strawberry player is a snap package and it does not work. I tried it then logged out cause it was not in multimedia apps in menu, fired it up and nothing happened. When I uninstalled it, the link is still in the menu, so edited application menu and deleted it from there, by right clicking menu and left clicking edit applications, left click multimedia arrow to list apps in that section, then left click Strawberry, at the top on the right hand side is a remove button, left click it, a dialogue box will appear asking if you really want to delete Strawberry, click yes and it's gone forever. This is just in case someone else tries this app.

I consider the autoplay problem to be solved.

I will start another topic to address the Clementine problem.
