Peppermint will not install using manual partitioning
« on: May 25, 2019, 11:39:38 am »
Hello

Why is Perppermint failing to recognize SDA when chosing manual partition during installation. It completely ignores my SDA.  I have previously installed
-Antergos, MX Linux, Debian 9 without issues.

Is it mounted? If it is, you have to unmount it and then run the installer.

Another option is that the file system is incompatible. IE: trying to do a UEFI install on a MBR formatted drive. That will cause the installer to not recognize it.

Well I am booting from the live peppermint USB stick so assuming that the drives are unmourned.  I will see about uefi vs mdr. Thanks

Hello

This is a MBR system. I ensure to boot from bootable USB stick in mbr mode. . Like I said many others distro installed correctly. Perhaps the fact I have an extended partition?.

The extended partition should still show up. I don't know, I'm out of ideas. I use manual partitioning to install every time and I've never had that problem unless it was related to the issues I mentioned. Someone with more knowledge is going to have to take over. :(

It's possible that sda was the live install medium when you booted. Those nodes can change depending on what's plugged in at the time.

There's a million reasons the installer may not see (or display) a drive.

The main ones I'd suspect are either the BIOS hasn't initialised the disk properly, maybe the drive has errors, the drive requires drivers (unlikely if we're talking about an HDD/SSD, but you never said what the drive was) , or possibly it's flagged as a member of a RAID array (not sure how Ubiquity handles these .. just thinking out loud).

I'd be willing to bet... the volumes are configured in RAID Mode in BIOS  8)
