The Peppermint installer does not recognize that windows 7 is installed.  Please see the attached output from fdisk.

sda is the usb drive with Peppermint and sdb s the hardrive of my Lenovo X130e.  Please advise how I can install Peppermint 5 beside of windows as that option does not show on the install menu.  Thanks.

Why is the USB stick   being detected as sda ?

Set the BIOS to boot the hard drive FIRST

then use the boot device selection screen to choose to boot the LiveUSB.

To access he boot device selection screen, turn on your PC and immediately start keep stabbing the F12 key until it's displayed .. then use the arrow key to seleect the USB stick.

I have not changed anything in the bios.  In order to boot to peppermint live on the usb I am using F12 and selecting the usb as you requested.  Otherwise the system boots directly to windows on the hard drive.

Ok.  I went into the bios and changed the boot order so the hard drive is not ahead of the usb drive and it is now sda as you requested.  Thanks.

In that case, you'll have to resize the Windows partition manually (with say GParted) .. then boot into Windows and run a file system check.

Once done, it would probably be a good idea to use the "Something Else" option during the install and and manually create/mount your partitions, being cafeful to install the bootloader to the partittion you set as / and NOT the master boot record of the hard drive .. then use something like EasyBCD to add Peppermint to the Windows bootloader.

Ok, I was changing my response the same time that you were adding yours.  I did go into the bios and change the boot order so the hard drive is now ahead of the USB drive and it now is sda.  The first line in the boot order is Windows Boot Loader and then the hard drive.  Thanks.

The 64 bit installer does not find windows.  However, the 32 bit installer does find windows.  Should I install the 32 bit version or not?  Thanks.

Can't hurt .. both are capable or using more than 4 GB RAM anyway :)

I was able to install Peppermint 5 32 bit beside of windows 7.  However, during boot up to Peppermint I see a statement that says something like unsupported brightness and then Peppermint 5 loads.  Is that something I should be concerned about?  Thanks.

Hi AndyInMokum,

I do see the scanning for btrfs sytems first, then unsupported brightness  interface flashes by, and then Peppermint loads and runs fine.  Everything goes by rather fast so I can't see the details very well, but I thought I should mention it.  Thanks.

Hi, you are more than likely not using  btrfs.  You are highly unlikely to be using it with a regular installation as it is still quiet experimental.  You can remove the btrfs scan by running the following command in a terminal window.
Code: [Select]
apt remove --purge btrfs-tools

I can't help you with the unsupported brightness issue though.  Hang tight and someone will come up with something  - good luck  ;)!

Anyone out there have a solution for the unsupported brightness interface warning at startup?  Thanks.
