Can I Fix a Peppermint Boot from Linux Puppy? (SOLVED)
« on: May 24, 2019, 01:47:59 pm »
Here is the newby horror:

I have lost my Peppermint USB and now only have a Linux Puppy. I must have deleted Peppermint boot files because it will not start. All I get is a black screen. Can I fix a the boot from Linux Puppy?

How?

Please please please!

You could probably reinstall GRUB to see if that fixes it. What is the output of

Code: [Select]
blkid

Which is your Peppermint root partition, sda5 or sda7?

OK, assuming your Peppermint installation is all on that partition (ie no separate /boot partition), run these commands in sequence:

Code: [Select]
mount /dev/sda5 /mnt

Code: [Select]
for i in /dev /dev/pts /proc /sys /run; do mount -B $i /mnt$i; done

Code: [Select]
chroot /mnt

Code: [Select]
grub-install /dev/sda

Code: [Select]
update-grub

then press Ctrl-D to exit chroot.

Now you can reboot and hopefully boot into Peppermint, if all went well.

Alright, I've done it all, no error encountered and now... I'll try a reboot and report back
