Reading about P-10 being released, I wanted to switch back. I began with Peppermint 9 on my Asus Vivobook E203MA (I wiped Win-10-C from it immediately after purchase), then after awhile, I went with Mint 19.1-C. It's what I use on my NUC-PC. But I really like Peppermint too (too many great Distros to choose from), so I burned the P-10 ISO (via K3b) and installed it, erasing everything during install, to have a fresh install of P-10 only. I do not like dual booting; never done it, probably never will.
However, now -- and for the first time ever of all the times I've done this -- the GNU GRUB window launches at boot, with "The highlighted entry will be executed automatically in 30 seconds." Then it boots! And I know; I can hit "enter" and it will launch, but why do that? It only has one operating system on it; P-10, but it reacts like it has more to choose from, like with a dual boot. I've never had this happen before. And I do not know what more info to share with everyone for an answer, so if anyone needs more data, let me know what/how.

Also, I'm having issues with the trackpad; the Settings Panel only mentions keyboard, and in there's nothing about it. All drivers are installed; no proprietary's showed up. Do not recall having such an issue with P-9.

I take it this is a UEFI system ?

What's the output from:
Code: [Select]
sudo efibootmgr -v
and
Code: [Select]
sudo fdisk -l
and
Code: [Select]
blkid

What looks wrong about this is the boot order list; there's no CD/DVD drive in it, or connected to it, and the SD card (with no exe on it; its just pics and plain text files) is all there is beyond the internal eMMC. Plus I just removed the SD card and booted again; same results as follows. (Also, trackpad issue resolved).

Hmm, this seems all screwed up to me

a) Why did you select LVM during installation ?

but, here's a bigger problem

b) it looks like your EFI partition is on the MMC/SD card .. which means you're not going to be able to boot without the MMC/SD card inserted.

Isn't that the internal storage on that laptop?

You could be right murraymint.

Though I'm not sure I can help here besides trimming down the 30 second Grub timeout to say 2 seconds .. I mean I have no idea how LVM affects GRUB, nor how having the EFI partition on a different drive to the OS affects it either.

And what is the FAT32 drive /dev/sda1 ?

Well, after all of this, I decided to just re-install it. No LVM; minimum install; erase and install new; no updates as you go;  I kept it as simple and minimalist as the settings allowed.  I made sure the externally mounted SD card was not inserted. This unit comes with a 64GB internal soldered down eMMC (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/MultiMediaCard#eMMC). Anyway, now it acts & boots normally. Problem solved! Thanks to all! ~ PAA

Great news Paul, thanks for the update :)

BTW, I do wish they'd called eMMC something different, or had some way the kernel could distinguish between it and an MMC/SD card.
