Peppermint 10 Installation issues - Login?
« on: May 19, 2019, 01:50:43 pm »
Hi,

I have run Peppermint since 4 or so.  Also, 7, 8, and currently 9.  I like its minimal selection of apps and lightweight.  I haven't posted to the forum before.

I created a USB key with Pep10 64bit.

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad x120e (AMD E-350 CPU) running Peppermint 8.

1.  If I boot into "Try PeppermintOS Live  without installing" it prompts for a login at the login manager screen.  I have searched the Internet for the credentials for the Live USB
and tried some obscure guesses.  The userid peppermintos gives invalid password.
Why would the "Try PeppermintOS Live" require a login with password?   And what is are the credentials?  Does it matter that I have Linux on the x120e already?'

No, that shouldn't happen. How did you create your live USB?

Thanks murrymint for your reply.  Which part of that is unexpected?

Actually I used Peppermint 9 File Manager Nemo 3.6.5 and Make bootable USB stick.

The x120e is (legacy BIOS) booted via
Enter to interrupt normal startup
F12 choose alternate boot device
USB HDD: my USB stick

Installer boot menu

Try Peppermint OS Live  <<<<<<<<<<
Install Peppermint OS

There shouldn't be a need to login to a live session at all and I'm baffled because that's the same way I always create my Peppermint USB sticks. What happens if you just install without "trying" first? Do you want to install Peppermint 10?

Murraymint,

I tried doing an installation with the USB and found some odd behavior starting with "ubi-console-setup failed with exit code 2".
I did run the check installation media but it didn't show a problem (or give a clean bill of health)

I used a different USB and that one boots directly into live without a login prompt.  Not a problem any more.  But if I let the Try session time out then I was back at a login window without a password.   Probably the power management settings need to be disabled for "lock system".

I will do an installation of Peppermint10 but I want to know I can use the USB to show it off to others.

The above was for a Peppermint8 system but I will check back to see if there is a upgrade possibility (convenience) for 2 Peppermint9 systems.

The original USB key was recycled from a Peppermint7 boot USB.  I need to find some more 2GB USB keys.

Thanks, Dave

In all of my PMX testing I never ran into the need for a Live Session password... but today whilst wiping Win10 from the mini-lappie's harddrive I did.  When did this land @PCNetSpec?

Also @DaveL,
if this issue has been resolved to your satisfaction would you kindly edit the Subject Line of your original post, and append [SOLVED] at the end so future forum readers know that we found a solution?

It didn't "land"

Nothing has changed in this regard .. you shouldn't normally be asked to log into a Live session, if it does something went wrong.

Well, that 'splains it then as I was re-partitioning the drive to weed out Win10 and  the live session stalled & timed out...
