hey if you use the gui version of red shift you screen should be normal at day and shift to red at night you have to put in your location
zip or ip address in the gui and it will slowly shift color with the ambient light, it actually really helps once you get used to it.
if you look at a piece of white paper at night under your lights it will appear red, it kind of adusts your screen to be a more natural lighting
because the screens normal brightness at night is like staring into the sun it messes with your sleep and i found caused me a lot of head aches.
give the gui version a try and see if you like it. if not just uninstall it i do find it very useful though.

As for the music, if its a flac file i find a lot of media players don't play flac is that what your playing?
VLC will read them, maybe this is why? you could always convert your files to mp3 or a more common format just to play
them.

i think the bar your talking about is the window decoration?
if thats what u mean go to menu, preferences > peppermint control center
than under desktop effects change window decoration opacity so you can't see it.
You also can change the way it looks aka make it smaller  by changign the theme in
window manager. Other than that i'm not 100 % sure

What you said about the color of screen makes sense. I'll get redshift gui version. Will be definitely helpful.

Regarding the decoration bar. The solution that you provided only makes the bar disappear, that space will not be useable.
I use image editors a lot and powerpoint and in portrait mode and during these modes, this extra space can be very valuable.

Thanks again for the redshift idea.

Can we stop using this topic as a catch-all for  multiple issues.

It's now impossible to mark this topic as (SOLVED) because it contains more than one issue, some of which ARE solved, others which are not.

ONE SUBJECT (with a descriptive title) PER TOPIC,

Please be aware this forum is just as much about other people searching for already discovered solutions as about finding new ones .. a single issue/question per topic with a descriptive title makes it MUCH easier for people to search for already discovered solutions .. it also means they can be marked as (SOLVED) when a solution is discovered (again aiding people with the same problem/question).

I just found out tonight cairo-dock actually has an applications menu you can set in addons which is really nice and you can set the custom icon
which i set as the peppermint logo rather than the ubuntu one.
