<-- smiles smugly :)

(this is what happens when an advertiser pretty much owns the web .. take a stand and switch to Firefox .. not Brave, who are also advertisers)

given that nearly everything anymore is clickbait, I figured you guys would get right to the bottom of it...

I suppose that's the bit of code that everyone has used forever to know where their web traffic is coming from, just curious that ggl would prevent disabling of it now?

I don't have a crystal ball, but I've been doing this stuff a long time - actually a decade before Al Gore even invented the web.  ;D

There is only one (1) purpose for 'ping'... tracking people. That's the stated purpose, and they're selling it as a way to make the web safer for kids, old farts, and so forth, and so on.

Fx was smart. They've included 'ping' in their browser, but it's disabled by default. When you finally give up the fight, you can turn it on.

Brave... not so smart. AFAIK, they have not included 'ping' in their browser.

The way I see it shaking out, as time goes on, is one's browser will become less and less usable, if you aren't allowing 'ping' to track you.

Put another way, it's just a matter of time before everyone will have to acquiesce to 'ping' and allow it to track you everywhere you go, and watch everything you do.

It's a Borg thing. One can fight it, as much as they wish, but you WILL be assimilated  ::)

Websites will only force it on you when the amount of people who they'd loose by enforcement becomes insignificantly small .. so KEEP THE NUMBERS UP, take a stand and use Firefox..

 ;)

I do use Firefox... and have used it & Seamonkey pretty exclusively since p8. I am testing something for a Netflix debate over in one of the MeWe Linux groups,  therefore just re-installed Chromium a few minutes ago.

According to this:
https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/software/mozilla-firefox-to-enable-hyperlink-ping-tracking-by-default/
Mozilla are also planning on enabling click tracking in Firefox and making it impossible to disable .. if they do that, I may have to seriously reconsider my position on their claims of "Private Browsing with Tracking Protection" >:(

I don't care what their reasoning is, or even if it's correct .. capitulation is not the answer.

B-but it's going to make your user experience better. Don't you want a better user experience? ???

Basically, their reasoning is: they're going to track anyway, so why not make it help you? ::)

That's like saying the government is watching you from the panel van across the street, and they're going to do it no matter what, so you might as well have them wash your car while they're out there.

Yeah dumbest excuse I've heard in .. erm, well not very long actually, but that doesn't change my point any :)

The correct response would be "sure we'll allow our users to disable it, and when sites try to circumvent it we'll block that too" .. because here at Mozilla we like to think Firefox is all about "Private Browsing with Tracking Protection" .. in fact we say so on our website.

Mozilla/Firefox will loose a lot of good will (and possibly users) if they do this .. don't be dumb Mozilla.
