ICE/Firefox Question (answered)
« on: April 21, 2019, 08:25:21 pm »
So, I have a question about ICE and how it works with Firefox. I turn off all telemetry data gathering and reporting in Firefox. I hate it, the browser doesn't need to "phone home" with what I'm doing.

Well, when you create an ICE SSB, it creates a separate profile with the options reset. I know this is true because it resets other annoying security issues, like offering to save passwords. (I disable that too) So, wouldn't the telemetry reporting be turned back on for the SSB? Is there a way to disable it for the SSB? It's not like you can easily access the preferences in a SSB. I like to create SSBs for things like Amazon Music, but not if the SSB is going to report telemetry data.

Yes Firefox SSB are TOTALLY isolated from the main browser profile (and from each other) .. so you're right, they will have pretty much default settings.

But as Firefox SSB's have their own profiles, this means you can have differing settings (and addons) for each SSB .. changing these settings may not be very intuitive in SSB's created in ICE so far, but this is about to get somewhat easier in ICE 6.0.1

See here for how to create bookmarks in a Firefox SSB
https://forum.peppermintos.com/index.php/topic,8200.msg83969.html#msg83969
you could then create bookmarks for say
about:preferences
about:config
about:addons

These bookmarks will already be in place in Firefox SSB's created with ICE 6.0.1 (as used in Peppermint 10 when it's released).

Once PCNetSpec taught me to hit ALT to bring up the Menu Bar @scifidude79, the first thing I have been doing since then is click View > Sidebar > Bookmarks. Then create 3 bookmark  a:a, a:c & a:p for about addons, about:config, about:preferences.

 8)

on Chromium browsers it's CTRL + Shift + o to bring up the bookmarks and access to chromium tools.

Thanks spence. I remembered that Ctrl+b brought up the bookmarks sidebar in Firefox. I didn't know about Alt bringing up the menu bar, though. :)
