Installing a Realtek RTL8822BU USB Dongle on Peppermint 6
« on: April 05, 2019, 11:00:16 pm »
I bought this from Amazon with the idea of connecting it up to my peppermint laptop.  Here is the Amazon description: “Carantee USB WiFi Adapter 1200Mbps, [2019 Upgrade] Wireless Network WiFi Dongle with 5dBi Antenna for PC/Desktop/Laptop/Mac, Dual Band 2.4G/5G 802.11ac,Support WinXP/7/8/10/vista, Mac10.6-10.13”

From the terminal  I did a

 sudo apt-get install linux-headers-generic build-essential git

Not sure I really needed to, but I did it.

Copy  the RTL88x2BBU....zipped file from the LINUX folder on the included mini CD  to a folder on your hard drive

Unzip it, it will produce a subdirectory of the same name with a bunch of files in it.

Change to that directory

From the terminal run the make cmd

Wait till it completes:  Then from the terminal run sudo make install

Then run sudo modprobe 88x2bu

I then did an ifconfig and the new adapter is there (wlan1)

Cycle the wireless on and off, and you should see the new adapter
