Looking for printer driver Brother MFC-250C (SOLVED)
« on: August 10, 2014, 01:37:28 pm »
After solving my neighbours printer problem, thanks to your help (he doesn't understand English),
I remembered having one myself.

There must have been a Linux driver for this one, as far as I know.
But it seemingly disappeared.

So, may be somebody knows a solution for this one too ...

Thank you for looking into this as well ...

http://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadlist.aspx?c=us&lang=en&prod=mfc250c_all&os=128

Download the "Driver Install Tool"

unpack it

mark the included script as executable

run it as root

Follow the onscreen instructions .. when prompted for "Model Number", enter
MFC-250C

It will do the rest for you, including downoading the correct drivers and installing them

Let me know if you need assistance.

Wow, I didn't expect to have solution that fast ...

But, indeed I need some assistance

I downloaded Driver Install Tool
by opening i got this large Document 1
which starts with:
! /bin/bash
There is so much text, partly in Chinese, that get totally lost...
So I don't know how to proceed from this point to mark the included script as executable

Thank's again ! I really thought there wouldn't be a driver available and it looks like the scanner will work as well !!!

I guess various things went wrong.
This is my outcome:

Next thing I experienced was that some programs wouldn't start any more (clicking the icons on the desktop) : error message: read only ...

I logged out and couldn't log in anymore. I then rebooted normally, which did not work.
Rebooted using other boot options, pushed somewhere F for error reparation and got finally my desktop back.
At a first glance every thing works normally. But I guess I have made a mess this time and should have stopped by the first outcome:

mkdir: cannot create directory ‘/home/elias/Brother_MFC250C’: Read-only file system
elias@elias-System-Product-Name ~ $ cd ~/Brother_MFC250C

or here:

bash: cd: /home/elias/Brother_MFC250C: No such file or directory.

What should I do next? Using the uninstall commands?

They're not going to work if your filesystem is flagged as read-only

What's te output from:
Code: [Select]
mount

Yes, I can. No problem.
Now everything is back to normal, from my point of view.
The 'read only error message only popped up, after I had been giving the commands, one after the other.

You entered a command incorrectly .. probably best to copy/paste these commands.

run:
Code: [Select]
cd ~/Brother_MFC250C
then
Code: [Select]
sudo ./linux-brprinter-installer-2.0.0-1
enter your password when prompted .. then hit enter.

be aware when you type in your password, nothing will be echoed to screen (not even *****), just type it in and hit enter.

after entering your password and hitting enter, some text will appear in the terminal asking for the model number .. then after entering it and hitting enter should ask you a series if Y/n questions.

Now everything went fine.

But I have no clue what to answer the last question: 'select the number of destination Device URI. ->'

Will you specify the Device URI? [Y/n] ->Y

0: ipp14
1: lpd
2: ipp
3: socket
4: serial:/dev/ttyS0?baud=115200
5: ipps
6: https
7: http
8: smb
9: usb://Brother/MFC-250C?serial=BROC0F192209
10: parallel:/dev/lp0
11 (I): Specify IP address.
12 (A): Auto. (usb://Brother/MFC-250C?serial=BROC0F192209)

select the number of destination Device URI. ->

If it's connected by USB .. choose either

9: usb://Brother/MFC-250C?serial=BROC0F192209
or
12 (A): Auto. (usb://Brother/MFC-250C?serial=BROC0F192209)
