Something like Gtile for peppermint
« on: March 26, 2019, 12:55:52 am »
All,

So peppermint is freaking shweet in all respects.. But I miss Gtile from Gnome 3. It's basically a plugin that gives you an overlay like i3 in Gnome. I have done a bit of looking.. but I have yet to find something that gives me that without installing i3 and mucking about with more than a few things that I really do not want to sort out.

Thoughts?

xfce has some built in functionality for this, https://www.xfce.org/about/tour see the tiling section.
Personaly, I have no idea about how good it is, or not. I'm an awesome wm user myself, so haven't looked into it.

Sometime ago, I've started this thread, https://forum.peppermintos.com/index.php/topic,8096.0.html
Currently, time is something I'm a bit short of, and it doesn't seem too many people are interested on it.
I can share config files and some guidence if you want, but... something tells me this is not exactly what you're looking for  :-\

Hi drakken, whatever you do, make a snapshot of your system that you can recover to before making changes to it.
What was I thinking?

Currently the ability to 'snap' windows to the left/right (halves), or any of the 4 corners (quadrants) of screen by simply dragging them there is already built into Peppermint .. anything beyond that I'm afraid isn't currently possible without third party software, and I'm not sure there is any (at least non I'm aware of).

I repeat .. I am interested in it as a session choice for PM10, but nothing has been forthcoming and the development windows is about to start closing.

I've been really short of time, but...
Give me a deadline and I'll check if its possible or not.

Ok, I'll give it a try  :)
But, I'll be doing this blindly from PM7 and will need some input from you people  ;)
First question... can you confirm the default icon theme on PM9 to be paper-icon-theme?!

Sorry, but at the moment I don't have time to replace my install  :'(

I've started installing icons, change the color of the default layouts and taglists. Even start to modify the lua files...
...but, I'm sorry to say this, I just don't have the time right now  :'(
It wouldn't be fair to do this if its not going to be close to perfect, Peppermint deserves nothing less than perfection, and with my new job, I just can't make it perfect, better to leave it.

Sorry guys!

Sorry gents for not getting back sooner. I am making some head way with this working with XFwm4/LXDE sorcery with a friend that is a part of the C++ distro. Nothing is set in stone, nor worth posting as of yet for how to, but it is getting there.   >:( At this point? Install i3 would be easier overall to use as the WM and keep LXDE as the DE. But I really did not want to complicate the base install anymore with something like that. Everything is just so awesome from first boot. So I will let y'all know if I get anywhere with this plugin.
