difficulty in using some websites
« on: March 12, 2019, 09:28:03 am »
Hi,
for example, this morning I opened 'Gumtree'  and four sale items were liisted.  I couldn't open any of them without getting
'Is javascript disabled?  Or is 'ghosting' or 'noscript'  interfering?   Or words to that effect.

Now I have no idea what these things are but I assume that they are in my computer somewhere.  Any idea on how I take them out?

Hi flighty,

Ghosting and noscript refer to add-ons to your browser. If you have no idea about what these mean, then you most probably have not installed them. Or has anyone else used your computer and perhaps installed these?

Javascript is something that comes with your browser and in the settings for your browser it should be possible to turn it on (enable it) or turn it off (disable it). They seem to want you to check that it is enabled.

slim.fatz,
Thanks for your reply.  I couldn't find 'settings' for firefox so went on line.  I found a site on 'how to enable javascript in firefox' which looked pretty straightforward and will tackle that.  However, I have to go out for the evening now so it will have to wait.

I'll let you know how I get on, if not later on today, tomorrow morning.
Cheers

Close ALL instances of Firefox

Open a terminal and run:
Code: [Select]
firefox --safe-mode
and elect to start Firefox in safe mode.

Does Gumtree work now ?

Oh, and have you tried clearing your browser cache, and restarting?
