Lenovo Ideapad 120s-11IAP
« on: February 26, 2019, 10:11:35 pm »
Tonight I installed Peppermint 9 on my Pastor's wife's Lenovo Ideapad 120s-11IAP.
Windows ran like molasses on it, and was bloated on the 32GB drive.
Peppermint runs smooth and leaves 21GB free.

The nice thing about helping ppl with computers is, it acts as a refresher course for the trainer.   ;)

You are correct.

Well done, it's always nice to receive a Peppermint :)

Oh, and thanks for the pic .. it reminded me I need to get another HDD cloning dock, my old one broke.

[EDIT]

BTW I have an Ideapad 100S for testing an experimental 32bit UEFI build of Peppermint 9 .. if I can iron out a minor bug in the installer Peppermint 10 might have 32bit UEFI support baked in (or have a separate build for 32bit UEFI).

(mucho thanks to Dolphin and CubicleNate for their help with this)

I have 3 Thermaltake BlacX external drives.
2 are USB 2 with eSata. The eSata works great with my Alienware laptops for booting distros.
1 is USB 3. I use that more for modern machines, such as my wife's Razor Laptop and Area51 Desktop (she's a gamer!)

Nice job and welcome to the best forums on the planet!  (Oouuu, did I sound too much like EB there?) Once you set her up with some ICE applications of her favorite sites she will be hooked.

Peppermint is a fine distro, but it is no Solus! ;)
Agreed that this is one of the better forums I have been on. Very organised.

It's not easy not being Solus, but we do try so Thanks :))
(in fact we're getting rid of the last "9" from our version number next release ;))

Consider it Solus vs. Solace  ;)

Noice!

Sounds like the same identical model that I own:

BlacX 2.5"/3.5" SATA Hard Drive USB/eSATA Docking Station

I've been using it for a decade (purchased in 2008). It's indestructible.

USB2 works okay, but it's S-L-O-W!

eSATA speeds are indistinguishable from an internal drive (sometimes faster, according to reviews).

Just saying...  ;)

That's when you go put the kettle on, make a drink, grab a bag of crisps, and go watch an episode of Stargate / Farscape / Trek, etc.

Gotta love Amazon. They track and record everything one does in perpetuity.  LoL

Looking at the details of the purchase, I paid $39.99 USD w/Prime shipping

If you'll notice, in the purdy pic above, a dealer is selling one for $117.45 (used - like new).

You're sitting on a goldmine, mintspider  :)
