sudo reboot does the same thing.  Close the lid - lift the lid and machine is frozen...

Advice please

Hi zeb!

Does shutdown work?
Any errors if you do it from the terminal?
And, sorry about it... is the bios updated?

Regards

EDIT: Have you seen this https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Linux-Discussion/Legion-Y520-Freeze-when-try-to-shutdown-or-restart-after-fresh/td-p/4162896 and this https://askubuntu.com/questions/1045973/ubuntu-18-04-stalls-on-shutdown-lenovo-legion-y520 ?

Hey Pin,

Nothing worked m8 it would just freeze. Co-incidentally your link is the one I found too  :D

- Install Peppermint putting the Graphic Mode to UMA

- Once is installed, restart and enter Bios and put Graphic Mode to Discrete

- use advanced Grub menu to get to the command line interface (you must enable the Network before moving to Root)

- Then follow the next steps:

Note: after the autoinstall of the nVidia drivers - you will need to use the secure boot password you set up when preparing your machine

Code: [Select]

sudo apt purge nvidia*

sudo apt update

sudo ubuntu-drivers autoinstall

sudo apt full-upgrade

sudo reboot

and it now reboots ok

Regards Zeb...

Isn't 'prime' fun :)

This bit is odd
Code: [Select]
Card-1: Intel Device 591b
it's as if the system doesn't know which Intel graphics chip you have.

Does running
Code: [Select]
sudo update-pciids
then
Code: [Select]
inxi -G
make any difference there ?

Hmm .. I've never tried the 4.15 driver under a 'prime' setup (I've always used the versions from the default repos) .. I'll give it a go later and get back to you.

How did you get 4.15 exactly ? .. so I can replicate it.

Sorry it's taking me a bit Zeb .. I need to reinstall PM9 on another machine (with a prime setup), I don't wanna screw my current install.

Breaking out a new SSD for testing on the older E6520 as I type (well AFTER I type .. I haven't 4 hands) :)
