MacBook 4,1 (2006-ish)
« on: January 16, 2019, 11:02:33 am »
I tried Ubuntu on this machine, but could never get the Wifi working, no matter which version.

Peppermint worked perfectly, right off the bat. Love it! I'm giving this computer to my daughter, so I won't be a regular on this forum, but here is the info, for posterity:

It's good to see that Peppermint was installed on a Macbook and with an intel processor but I'd really like to know how it was done!

I have a Macbook Pro 3,1 with Snow Leopard and really want to run a live usb with linux as Firefox is no longer supported but want to keep snow leopard for the software. I found a page on Quora where a user said she had done this with Peppermint which is how I have ended up here. The usb I created wasn't read at all but when trying it on a couple of friend's newer model Macbooks (one a Mabook Pro mid-2014) it worked. I have also tried with a CD as I read this could be easier, with no avail too.

I have subsequently been given an old HP laptop and set up with Peppermint and all is going pretty well as mentioned elsewhere.

Any suggestions?!

Hold the Option key at bootup .. is the Peppermint LiveUSB listed or not ?

What did you use to create the LiveUSB ?

Have you tried another USB stick (possibly not USB 3.0) ?

No the stick wasn't listed . I also downloaded a startup manager but that didn't pick it up either.

I have tried another usb, neither I think a USB 3.

I converted the iso file using hdiutil convert on the terminal. This same stick is how I put Peppermint on my HP laptop and also the other Mac

I just had a look at your link but there was no choice for external hard drive when I looked at Startup Disk

I will have a deeper look later when I have more time.
Thanks again for your help, much appreciated.
