I wondered if I should use the word 'fishing'. 'Hunting' would have been more accurate, at this point.

There's a big difference between 'hunters' and a 'fishermen'.

I started off by 'fishing' for suitable RAM. I didn't care who made it, nor the price. When I decided on buying Dell/SK Hynix RAM, it turned into 'hunting' for the price I was willing to pay.

Right now, I have 8GB of used Dell (2x2) & HP (2x2) SK Hynix RAM in my 3 second booter, and it works fine, but I don't like mixing RAM modules. It's an OCD thing.  ;D

Well I'm sure you could work in a 'blind Chinese cowboy riding a three legged greased melon' metaphor if you really wanted to, but....

Fishing will do :)

I swapped out the SSD from my EeePC, attached it to my project mobo, and installed P9R2 - 10 sec boot OOTB.

Well, I couldn't take it any more. The slowness of the OEM Sammy HD321KJ in my Asus Eee PC 1000HD is killing me.

Can't say that the Eee PC ever flew on a Sammy 860 Evo, but it was livable. After I reinstalled the OEM spinner ... OMG

I've been watching this 'oldy but goody ' SSD, since it hit the market @ $85.00 USD (2017).

BTW, here's an interesting Price Tracking Tool: CamelCamelCamel

Newegg has a 72-hour sale going on, right now, and they hit my price-point...

I love the oldskool chipset in this SSD. Looks like a marriage made in heaven. We'll see...

EDIT

Correction: I *thought* the HDD that I listed above was bigger and faster than the OEM drive that came with this Asus Eee PC 1000HD. Sure enough...

Old Thread: https://peppermintos.net/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=6078

The Eee PC OEM drive was a Seagate ST9160310AS 160GB 5400RPM HDD. Can you imagine?

Must be the OEM HDD out of my Toshiba Satellite A215-S4807  :P

BTW, in case you might think I'm crazy for buying this obscure SSD...

There's a method to my madness   :-\

I know I could buy a Sammy EVO, or Crucial MX500 SSD, for a few bucks more. But, the next time I'm building a new rig, I know I'll be thinking about that drive, lingering inside my lowly netbook, 'gathering dust.'

I'll end up swapping it out, again, and be in the same dilemma, a few weeks or months down the road.

I'll be less likely to rob this SSD from the Asus, unless it magically turns out to be a stellar performer - which I highly doubt.

Performance wise I've come to the conclusion (with a few exception) SSD's are much of a muchness .. they pretty much all now exceed the performance of SATA III so themselves aren't the bottleneck.

It's all about longevity (chip quality, and firmware) and warranty now.

The 'Munchkin' Reactor 250GB arrived today. Had to show you the packaging. It's a hoot...  ;D

It came wrapped in a heavy plastic blister pack, like a pocket radio or digital recorder:

It's always reassuring to know I just bought the best SSD I'll ever own and, of course, that I'm awesome!

To seal the deal, they included a snazzy case badge. It'll fit right in perfectly with the OEM badges on my Eee PC:

Don't know what I'm going to do with all the room. I normally buy 60GB drives for machines like this :-\

Overprovisioning and empty space, the drive will love you for it. Wear levelling can only operate where there's space so nothing hurts an SSD like being full.
(always get a larger SSD than you think you'll ever fill)

The price of 240GB SSD's makes smaller ones a bad idea these days.

But then you already know this :)

[EDIT]

I do like that <M sticker .. maybe we need a <P one :)
(or maybe M$<PM)
