This reminds me of these kids puzzles where there'd be 2 pictures side by side that on the surface look identical but have subtle difference and the object of the exercise was to spot the differences, I used to be good at that but I'm stumped with this one :)

If you can keep your head while all around are losing theirs then you're not quite grasping the situation

That's in essence what UI design is. Nitpicks that if accumulated become one big spike in the eye of the user.

This was a discussion we were having in Telegram and I have already stated that all his changes are just his perception.

I asked him to bring it here - in case anyone else agreed with these perceived slight imperfections.

I have already stated that all his changes are just his perception.

Agreed.

The Conky 'gurus' ran a campaign against me for years. Why? Because I can't stand it if something is off by 1 pixel.

One of them took particular umbrage with me for using decimals in my font sizing; claiming it made no difference.

After a year of this nonsense, off and on, he decided to construct an elaborate side-by-side comparison of the fonts I use in Conky, with the various decimal settings changed (like 7.6 vs 7.75) . Once they were posted side-by-side, as the OP did above, he was forced to eat crow, and admit HE was wrong (with an apology).

That said, I don't leave anything alone. If something bothers ME in Peppermint Linux OS, I haxor it to MY liking - that's all.

No reason to force my views (see what I did there?) on others.

99.999% of users can't see the difference anyway...  8)

This would be better served by taking it up with the whiskermenu developer .. that's not us.
https://gottcode.org/xfce4-whiskermenu-plugin/

Whilst I kinda agree you're spacing is an improvement, effectively you're doing the equivalent of raising issues about Adobe Photoshop icon spacing with Microsoft.

If you're talking about more than just the whiskermenu, I'm afraid you're gonna have to spell it out better.

I take it it was taken on a widescreen monitor?  Is it that your mouse has to travel double the distance?  Whisker menu, you could bring the panel up in size, that'll raise the menu up in size too. Plus instead of having all your window buttons on the panel shown as names, you could change it to just icons. Just to unclutter your top panel a bit. Blimey I think it's amazing that Linux can actually produce itself on these over sized screens. I use a total of three panels as it works on my builds of Peppermint 10.

This is my setup - Slim - and it is a 34£ wide screen 344x1440 upscaled to be 5120x2160 - we were discussing it in a telegram and if you look at his images full screen you will notice very slight imperfections and icon spacing that he is bringing to the table.  Each screen he produces he tells you on the screen ( with writing) what he thinks is wrong. It is simply his perception and a lot of it is beyond our control.

Ah thanks for clarification. Yeah I guess the bigger the monitor, the more stuff has to be worked out in different resolutions? I'm so glad I use a plain old 24" Samsung monitor. I don't think I'll go any bigger than 24" as it is big enough in my opinion. Though I would like to go 144HZ instead of 60HZ. One day I will.

Hi Slim,

I change absolutely nothing on the default install of Peppermint. Theming, scaling, positioning is spot on whether using a 14" Laptop or a behemoth 49" wide screen like Jason Evangelho does.

The OP is just be ultra ultra picky

Technically we **could** change the whiskermenuu spacing but that would mean diverging from upstream packages and hosting our own copy .. which would have to be kept up to date.
(and anything covered by say modifying Gtk libs would be not only difficult, but may have unforeseen consequences down the line)

Maintaining a ton of extra diverged packages is kinda beyond our manpower ATM, even if I wanted to .. it's a case of prioritising doing 'what you can' rather than 'everything you'd like'.
