New Purchases 2019
« on: January 10, 2019, 04:07:21 pm »
Here's a good one for you, to start the New Year off right...

I've been running a three-monitor tree for awhile now - 29" Dell U2913WM ultra-widescreen display on the top, and 2x AOC 2343  doorstop displays on the bottom. - Beauty and The Beasts, if you will.

Why such an odd combination? When I put this tree together, the AOCs were the only matching displays I had laying around the house, gathering dust - ancient relics from the old LAN Party days. With enough adjusting, they looked okay, but just okay - nothing to write home about.

I did have a beautiful, drop-dead gorgeous 24" Dell U2412Mb in my harem, but only one. And, they were too expensive, at the time, to consider buying a second one for the tree. So, I patiently waited until I found one, for the price I was willing to pay. Yesterday was the day.

Long story short, I ran across a used Dell U2412Mb display on eBay (working pull with no stand) last night, and  for shiggles I offered the seller $65.00 USD w/Free shipping... and they accepted the offer.  :o

Time will tell, what kind of condition it's in, but I judge that any used 24" Dell U2412  has gotta be preferable to a used 23" AOC 2343.

Fingers crossed...

Ultrawide is already a rather eccentric-looking, albeit bada** centerpiece for a desk. Peppermint on Ultrawide. Now that, that's intriguing to say the least :D
I run off two displays with this config. Scored them both during a clean out sale on eBay. LP2475w (S-IPS @1920 x 1200), LP2065 @1600x1200. Got em both for 50 bucks (USD).
i7 4790k @4.4 GHz, MSI Z97 PC Mate, EVGA GTX 950, HyperX  x2 8 GB (16 GB) DDR3, Adata SU650 240 GB, 2 TB WD Green 5400 RPM, 2 TB Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM

Boom! Yeeah! Nice snag...

Gotta love that eBay  :)

Great display. It's really impressive when playing 21:9 HD movies/videos (with no black bars), but...

I really got it so I could config it as 2x 19" displays. I run 2 browser windows in it (side by side).

Effectively, it turns my three monitor tree into a 'four' monitor tree.

They're fun until they're not. Then they're frustrating pieces of crap. ;)

I always use the word 'exacerbating', unless I'm at fault  ;)

Frustration implies 'YOU' are doing something wrong.

Exacerbation implies 'THEY' are doing something wrong.

I generally go with "you mother fucking piece of hardware shit you .. I'm going for the hammer"

Then go for a vape and let it sweat for a while.

That's what I'll be doing, next week, if my $65 eBay IPS monitor doesn't work  :D

I'm not spending $30 or whatevs, to ship it back.

Heh! No, but my back is on fire today  :)

When I re-config this tree, I need to disconnect all the wiring and carefully move the 3 monitors, mounted on the heavy steel base with swinging arms to a workbench -then, lay the whole thing face-down without damaging anything. Then, after the monitors are switched out, do the whole thing in reverse.

It's a real pain in the back. Luckily, I don't need to do it often...

BTW, I gotta show you this. I always take pics when a package arrives, in case of damage.

When I bought this monitor on eBay, the seller said he would package it well. He did.

When the box arrived at my door, it was bulging at the seams. Here's what was inside.

I lifetime supply of industrial strength bubble-wrap LoL  :D

Though it's good some people do that, I hate having to get rid of bubble wrap .. you either fill the bin full of air, or spend an hour popping the damn stuff.

Yeah, that's the good wrap. I hate it when people don't properly package stuff. I hope you gave that seller good feedback.

And, in response to what Mark said, definitely fill the bin full of air. My spare time is precious, no time to waste popping bubbles.

I wonder why nobody's had the idea to fill the bubbles with helium .. so the package weighs less and is therefore cheaper to post :)

Hydrogen would be better (more lift) but I'm not sure they'd appreciate exploding mail.
