Honestly my focus is not on user numbers, I'm primarily focussed on keeping happy the users that have already found us and decided Peppermint fits their use case, ethos, and ethics.

It is a difficult line to walk.  The aim must be to survive and for that you need a critical mass of people.  More people will bring more stability and they might bring even more people with them.  But they will also bring more ideas, needs and wants.  Drawing that line of keeping to the original ideology is easy in the short term, but harder to manage longer term as ideas 'slip' passed the radar.

Oh sure, I'm not suggesting a lack of interest in interested in new users .. just that user numbers is not an overriding focus that would be allowed to change the Peppermint ethos.

For example, I'm fully aware pre-installing local applications may help us shed the "cloud" label and garner new users .. but that's not what Peppermint is about and most current users like that we don't do that.

All I'm saying is if I somehow KNEW the "install the kitchen sink" approach would gain more users than we'd loose, I'd still not do it because it's not the 'Peppermint way' .. our ethos is important to me.

Well said. There are plenty of other Ditros out there that emulate a Windoze OS, complete with what I feel is a lot of bloatware. I love Peppermint for many reasons, not the least of which is the ability to "rescue" machines that heavier "more complete" packages simply will not thrive on. I am able to run P9 on a 32-bit, 3200MHz box with 400Mgb of Ram. It's not snappy, but it runs a monitoring program well. Clean and efficient, (and free).

I was tempted, and put the latest version of Linux Mint on my "experimental" laptop. LM may be a good distro on higher power machines, but my "X" laptop is older and under powered. I could see a difference in speed (despite LM being described as "light"). I immediately reinstalled P9 respin and am impressed once again.
