Arduino inop in Peppermint 9R and other 18.04 distros(SOLVED)
« on: January 05, 2019, 05:38:58 pm »
Hello Peppermint people. I ran into a problem today as I was attempting to fine tune my arduino solar panel position controller. Arduino IDE wouldn't work, i.e. the serial port option wouldn't open so I was pretty much dead in the woods. I booted up P 7 and it does work fine there and so I booted up Lubuntu 18.04  and it doesn't work there either. Turns out it's some kind of bug which has been reported an I found in AskUbuntu a work around that fixed the problem. Their solution was to do this:

Code: [Select]
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/java

Code: [Select]
sudo apt update

Code: [Select]
sudo apt install oracle-java8-set-default

As I mentioned, this works.  :)
What was I thinking?
