How Can I Add a Logout Button to Plank? [SOLVED]
« on: January 02, 2019, 12:10:53 pm »
Inspired by FocusPocus's user submitted tutorial How to add log out button on desktop panel (P7) (a tutorial which still works for Peppermint 9 Respin, I might add), I was wondering if there was a similar method for adding a logout button to Plank.

What is, or is there, a simple way (such as FocusPocus's method above) for adding a logout button to Plank?

Thank you,

perknh

Edit
Code: [Select]
gksudo xed /usr/share/applications/peppermint-logout.desktop
and make it read:-
Code: [Select]
[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Name=Log Out
Comment=Shutdown or Reboot
Icon=system-shutdown-panel
Exec=peppermint-logout
Categories=System;
NoDisplay=false
SAVE the file and exit the text editor

You'll now find a main menu item

Menu > System > Log Out

I'm guessing you'd know hot to add that to plank ?

Hmm...
Creating a launcher, adding an icon and giving it the necessary permissions should do it!?
Can't test right now, but... wonder if that's a good idea??

EDIT: Ok, typing at the same time...
Still wondering if that's a good idea?! Think about it!?

@PCNetSpec

Thank you.  Yes, that did it.  I wonder why it didn't pick up the the size and color of my icon theme.  It looks terrific on the panel, so-so on Plank.  My icon theme is Papirus-Dark, and I'm really liking that theme! :)

@pin

How could this be a bad idea?  What am I not considering here?  I have to admit, it didn't come out looking like I wanted it to.  I'm going for both a look here, and a way of computing.  I thought I'd end up with a cool looking, large red logout button, but instead I ended up with a small white one that doesn't match the others.  I was hoping to get the panel look, but on Plank instead.

FocusPocus's Logout button does look awesome on the panel  -- at least when using the Papirus-Dark icon theme!

Oh, well.  Thanks for experimenting with me guys.  I appreciate it.  ;)

That's it!  Thank you.

In my opinion, the Logout button looks pretty darn good! :)

Hi pin,

Yes, I first discovered that wallpaper in Ubuntu 14.04 12.04, or Ubuntu Unity's Precise Pangolin.  And, here's the link from the artist, Vlad Gerasimov, himself!
