Missing Taskbar on Peppermint Seven - (SOLVED)
« on: January 01, 2019, 06:06:52 pm »
My taskbar disappeared last night.
I found an earlier thread and followed several of the suggestions.

does the terminal open if you hit Ctrl+Alt+T ?

if so, what happens if you run this in the terminal:
Code: [Select]
lxpanelctl restart
?

Maybe the file is missing (which may explain a lot) .. what's the output from:
Code: [Select]
ls -a ~/.config/lxpanel/Peppermint/panels

In both instances, I see,  "No such file or directory"
I have a small panel where I can access files, and by hitting Help, access internet.
My fault for getting on this during New Years Eve.
How can I reload my Peppermint panel?
I am running 7.  Would going to 8 or 9 resolve this without file loss?  (What a fool believes.)
I understand no one may see this for awhile.
Happy New Year!

Update

OK, so I figured out how to go into the synaptic package manager and reinstall the lxpamel.

First off, we need to establish whether or not the panel is still running somewhere. Hit Alt+F2 to see if a "run" dialog opens. If so, then the panel is still running somewhere. If not, then it's not still running somewhere.

Then, following this tip, I got it running.
Not as pretty as the earlier version, but the same could be said for me.
I restarted - and - the taskbar was gone again.
The Alt+F2 trick worked again, but how do I get it to stay?
And once it stays - can I restore to defaults?
Thank you.

erm, you really shouldn't follow topics that old .. Peppermint 7 didn't use lxpanel .. we'd switched to the xfce4-panel by Peppermint 7

Uninstall lxpanel
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get remove lxpanel
then follow this tutorial to reset your Peppermint 7 panel to defaults
